Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Hey Woody,
I didn't think I'd be able to get one, so I'm thrilled with it. I ran into Keith and asked if I could see the worst one, which actually wasn't from the find (it was someone's downgrade, possibly yours?). I didn't like that one a lot, so I asked to see something a little better. He pulled three more out, and the middle one of the three worked nicely for me.
What a find!
Marc

Nice. Is that metal or something else?

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Picked this up as part of a recent purchase. The back side and the seam are in worse shape, but the front displays well. It looks like someone replaced the bottom lid since it's way too shiny to be original compared to the top lid.

My brother found this very cool mini bank at a local antique mall for me. I just love the art deco themes of the 1930's world fairs.

The same size can from the Chicago world's fair in 1932 has an even more striking art deco design. (Shameless sales plug...I will have both your libby can and the Chicago can for sale at canvention for bargain basement clearance prices)Scott Rollert wrote:My brother found this very cool mini bank at a local antique mall for me. Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I have been watching for an Old Gold from Battle Creek for about a year now. I finally got one off of ebay. I paid 15x more than Ted paid for the one he found in a bargain box in Fort Wayne but that's okay. It's tough can to find so I am just happy to have one.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
It looks better in these photos than it did in the eBay photos, and it also looks like it might clean up some. I'm surprised it didn't do better on eBay; it was a good buy.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I was searching for my banana saw last weekend in the garage and came across a bag of dirty, uncleaned cans that I can't remember when we dug them. Among the assorted beer & sodas was this lone zip. Gave it a cleaning and now have it in the CO collection. With my interest in CO variations this can is a welcome addition since I dug it somewhere in CO, probably back in the 80's.
My brother had borrowed the saw, by the way.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
There has been a long standing legend that these were canned, but to date, none have surfaced. Might have been a store ad, or a bill of sale proclaiming these in cans. I'm sure someone on here can add some details to this story.Lovegun wrote:pinnacle-project wrote:Cool label. Too bad it was never in a can.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Oh, I've certainly been successful at buying. I actually did reasonably well at NOT buying until the Bock came along. The Kamm's was a couple months ago and is the tougher variation. The Bock is new this week, and I've always held that can in very high regard. Photos magnify the flaws on both cans, as is usually the case with digital photos of metallic cans.

I've always thought the Kamms was one of the more futuristic looking J-spouts. Especially for a circa 1930's can. Metallic chrome with the checkered flag pattern = very cool!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I think Marcs Kamms may be a 1940's (early 40's) can. Most Kamms j-spouts will say Copyright 1940 near bottom. Marc's got the tougher variation with no Copyright 1940 near bottom.
