Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I haven't been too active lately but couldn't resist picking up this Frederick's J. The graphics look almost pre-prohibition.
I've never seen a dumper although I'm sure some are out there.
Great info on this can on beercanhistory website.
http://beercanhistory.com/abcs2.htm
I should add I picked this can up from Ted Larsen at Steel Canvas/Larwood Limited. Efficient and quick to do business with...great cans and prices
EDIT: Added pic of Frederick's bottle with matching label design.

Here is a tough Chicago flat that I added to the collection a couple of days ago. New top had been added, but otherwise in great shape.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
That's always been one of my favorite cans, and the recent price drop made it extremely attractive. I figured it would move very quickly, and it did. Nice grab!Clarkston1 wrote:I haven't been too active lately but couldn't resist picking up this Frederick's J. The graphics look almost pre-prohibition.

The design is very similar to a pre-prohibition label. Google failed me in a search for that label, but I have a photo somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Steve,
Nice grab on the Gennys. I understand that the "{Natures' Mellowness" is a real toughie. I think an articale was done on the BCCA News report about it.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
A mix of new and old for this weeks acquisitions. The Ruppert was the elusive Economy size for me. This pint also has the banner of King & Giant size with the Knickerbocker in white surrounded by a red banner. Thanks to DaveNH for most of the cans in this weeks acquisitions. Steve

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Always liked the Bond Hill cans. Finally broke down and picked one up.
These metallic cans can be ridiculously hard to photograph. Only way I could get it at all was to lay it on its side. Per usual, looks better in hand!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
A couple Chicago cans and my 1st Blatz "Christmas" can. 1 color down 5 to go. If you've got a rusty Blatz from this set you'd like to sell or trade let me know. Snowed in today in Maine. 10-14 inches of snow expected. How bout you?

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I worked about 140 hours of overtime last month and then failed to pull the trigger on a can I should have bought. The good news is that my stupidity worked in my favor this time, as this handsome fella hit the market a few days later. I did not fail to pull the trigger a second time!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Thanks, Brad. I don't play in that end of the pool often, but he may be the most exquisite goat to ever grace a can. I kicked around the idea of buying one that was consigned to Beer Cans Plus some time back, but they were directed to eBay it and it went over $1000 above the price they had on it. Thing aligned much better this time.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
One of the all time great cans. From what I remember the can on ebay was quite "reasonably" priced . Was that the one you got?? I hope I am not breaking any gentlemans agreement by responding to a new acquisition Wednesday can that was psoted on a Thursday.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
The Jacob Ruppert Bock OI is one of the five from the Maine auction a few years back. All have the solder marks, but I have no idea what was built from them. I'm not sure where this one ranks condition-wise amongst the cans, but I've seen one that is roughly equivalent and two that are a definite step down. I'm aware of three additional indoor cans, two of which I have seen. One is 1/1+ or very close to it, and the other is 1/1-. I've never heard of a dumper. I'm aware of only two examples of the non-OI, one absolutely pristine and the other grade 4.
Yes, Tom, this is from the auction that ended on the 4th. I agree that it was priced reasonably. A lady friend who really gets the "art" aspect of old cans referred to the goat as "Mona Lisa-ish" and commented at length on the asymmetry, the eyes, the sideburns and several other things. He's a keeper, and she might be too . . .
