Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Here’s a real yawner- thought I was getting a possible rubout flattop w/out Near Beer on the front label in a grouping on theBay. It showed up a tab! Not a rubout but I absolutely love it- Ziphippie

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
For my little collection of cans with a moose on them, I got one of the Moosehead cones I needed. Even better, it was cheap because it was not cleaned, but cleaned up fairly well.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I've always loved the graphics on this can. Been looking for a nice, humidity free, example for a long time. Finally found one and then had to wait even longer with the current shipping delays. Ohio tax stamp lid was an added bonus. On the shelf now!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I have always liked these Pfeiffer scenic cans. If anyone has the dark sailboat can in Bob's pictures above or the winter skier can in your totes, let me know. I am looking for something off grade but displays reasonably well.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Last week was a good week for adding cans to the collections. The Ambassador was an upgrade, the two Schlitz cans, Copenhagen and Crystal Rock are new for me as well.

That’s a tough one - a couple more if these have appeared since the book published.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Fantastic condition on that example!
IMO The pre- war Big Goat Bocks are the most interesting and collectible cans out there. I wish the two examples I posted were in better condition but the Auction prices seemed reasonable so I couldn’t resist.
They don’t seem to show up that often, especially the Doelger and the Trommers!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Thanks! I agree, few cans measure up to the pre-war Bocks. When I decided to add them to the list of things I collect, I envisioned collecting mostly dumpers and assumed I'd have a very small collection of them, but I've managed to get 11 and only four are dumpers. I don't collect the goatless ones or the small goat Schaefer, and I don't have a Pabst yet . . . well, I have a grade 4 I dug myself.Clarkston1 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 11:00 amFantastic condition on that example!

Dan's September auction was a killing field for me. The Schultz went way past my limit in pre-bidding, and the Arrow Ale and Genesee quickly did the same during live bidding. If I knew then that I was going to work 150 hours of overtime per month for the rest of the year, I would have pushed harder on the Jacob Ruppert Bock, but as it was there were two guys ahead of me when I decided to give up. I didn't think it went too high, just higher than I was comfortable with at the time. I thought the Roger Williams Ale was a bit faded, so I decided to bow out at a lower number than I originally had in mind. I figured the Trommer's Bock would blow past my number too, since everything else I wanted had, but it stopped at a number I was quite happy with and I'm even happier with it after seeing how the lower grade example did in Dan's last auction.
I think you did just fine on the Doelger. I don't recall the number on the Feigenspan, but I do recall thinking it came in a bit lower than expected. I'm sure they both look great on the shelf!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
My new additions this week.
Well here is a feel-good eBay story that happened to me last week.
So I won the bid for Old Boh flat 104-18. By accident, the seller sent me the other Old Boh they had up for auction 104-20. Well, this seller discovered the mistake before I received the can I won. With their message; not only did they notify me of their mistake. But they informed me that they had shipped out the correct can. But also asked if I did not mind sending the 104-20 can to the winner of that auction. I guess that nobody bid on that can. Because the next day I received a message that I can keep the can that they sent by mistake and the correct can that I won in the action.
How cool is that !!!! This one transaction gives me hope for humanity for 2021.
PS. To thank the seller, I purchased another item off their site. So be of good cheer, there is good out there in the land of eBay.
Cheers Roy

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
upgraded 2 cans from the December - January GG auction
Bud gold Split label - Los Angeles, I had an original can - shown next to upgrade in the photo, and a lot of wind tunnel cans but such a nice clean example and before wind tunnel find pretty scarce I think
The Colt 45 from Oklahoma City - I had an off grade but indoor example with no lid and so happy to have gotten that some years ago - did not know it was a fan tab as mine had no lid. Thought since the Lone Star 16 is only a zip it would have been too.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Outside of the Coca-Cola cone tops, this is probably the most desirable soda can. The blue regular production can is pretty rare on-grade, but the green version, thought to be given away as a factory sample when Clicquot Club started canning soda in 1938 is almost impossible. I know of three of these now. I was contacted by the gentleman (Fred Dunn) who was the plant manager for Clicquot Club back in the 1970's. This can was in his office when the plant was closed down by John Cott (owner of Cott Beverages), who saw Clicquot as competition, even though he was now the owner. When the plant closed, John asked him if there was anything in the office he wanted to take with him. He kept a painting which was sold a few years ago and this green can, that I purchased this from him on Friday!
