Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Thanks to Chuck Starrett (Flattop)I I was able to add my most wanted Michigan Conetop ...the Frankenmuth Ale bulb top cone.
Believe it or not this was actually his downgrade.
If you know Michigan cans this early variation in addition to the bulb top also has the “e” in Ale blacked in.
Thanks Chuck!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Chuck has some great cans. When I visited him a couple years ago, I was impressed by what he had stored away in his closet so you can imagine what was on his shelves.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I have been after one of these for a while and then got both these variations within a week. Sweet cans, I can see now why they are so popular.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Well, today is Wednesday...
My take from the recent BeerCansPlus/GoodGuys Auction.
Diehl Five Star is an upgrade
Waldorf Ale because I needed it
Eigenbrot's because I wanted it
Schaefer because even though there are 47 million cans that look just like this one, a BO Zip from Cleveland is tough!

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Always loved the Diehl Five Star. Little trivia. After the Diehl family discontinued brewing, they went into the dairy business at the same location in Defiance Ohio. My family did business with the Diehl family in the dairy business for over 40 years. One of the long term employees there that we did that business with, was a Diehl Brewery items collector. Almost, every time they did new construction at the plant, and demolished parts of the old brewery, they would find cans. I would get Diehl cones and Five Star cones from him at those time. During one such construction, I received a whole full six pack of Five Star cones, in the original holder. Fun times. I think that was in the early 1970's.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Here is a hodgepodge of stuff I’ve added over the last 10 days. Snagged the Olde Virginia bottle (antique store) because I’m only 30 miles from Roanoke and I already have the matching Bock bottle. Sterling was $1 antique mall can (IRTP/OI) and upgraded my shelf can. Old Georgetown was a Craigslist score and very clean for the price-Picked up as a trader. The Gerst cone is from EBay and happy to finally have one after missing out on several. Big surprise was the Silver Dime Beer etched glass scored at an antique mall for a very attractive price. I think the fact that it lacks the word beer coupled with it being in the booth of a dealer that specializes in vintage board games (???) kept it from getting snatched up. Still looking for any info about it as I have never seen one before.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I added Fox Deluxe to my row of 19" bottle signs this week. While the Fox Deluxe did come in a Grand Rapids version, this is the Chicago version. Someday, I would like to upgrade this Fox Deluxe because it is pretty rough but better than nothing. At some point, I would like to find the Grand Rapids version also.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
A couple of cans I picked up from the GG's auction and a couple from an RB'er. The Brown Derby is a little rough, but it's an upgrade for that empty space on my shelf. Very fond of the vanity tops I might add!

I like the GB's, they're from my home state.
I've been in the trades all my life, including 8-9 years in home remodeling before I got my electrical license and I've torn open many walls. I have never found a can like your Monogram. Lucky plumber and good score for your collection.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Going back to the Mono Gram again. Dang, that is a BEER CAN. That is why I collected when I was 12 and why I still collect beer cans at 64. Of course there are a plethora of amazing cans in our hobby. But every once in a while something pops up that just sets ones spirit a foot on why we collect. This is can is one of those for me. It is just spectacular. I am a crowntainer collector now. Been through the gambit of cans. I collect crowntainers because there are a limited amount of them and it disciplines me naturally. But this is the kind of can that puts that kind of discipline to the test. Just an amazing find and thanks for sharing it. In fact, if you are of the mind, I think a lot of us would love to see the rest of the can. I know I would.Plusonegolfer wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 6:47 pm IMG_0968.JPG

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Recently picked up this Covington, KY flat. Much tougher than the similar, but different, cone. I believe they only made this style of flat for about a year until the brewery transitioned into a completely different design.
