The former Chancellor of the University I worked for trekked across Mongolian in 2010... he was offered this can of beer in a yurt in the Gobi desert... saved it for me. Always like the stories behind the cans and how they get to a collection somewhere on the other side of the globe.

Is the 32 degrees can I pictured below the one you mean? (If it is, I didn't realize it was rare?)

I also included the only two 24oz. cans to come out of Portland, Oregon that I know of and these two Steele Reserve's cans are the only two examples I have ever run into. (So I assume they are rare cans)
Second pic is four hard to get 16 oz. cans from Tumwater, WA. (These four cans came out of the Olympia or Miller archives when they were sold off but It is my understanding they all had short production runs)
That's my Pacific Northwest 2 cents worth.... :smt023

Eric - What is the brewery info on the 32? (mine is Heileman #QI020 from Portland > sold in Baltimore?) It is a rare can to me being from the east coast. Issued at a time when nobody saved cans like that (1995).....
This is a cool set ....

This is an interesting thread.

Is anybody familiar enough with 80s aluminum to "rate" this 14oz can for me? I've had it for quite awhile, but have never seen another:

Yeah.....that is the same Heileman code as mine. At least a couple of the St. Ides variations have the same Portland-Baltimore labeling going on as well. A lot of the Heileman specialty contract brews were done in Portland (St. Ides, 32 degrees, Axis, Steel reserve, etc.) especially the malt liquors....maybe because Portland had such a long history of brewing Olde English 800?

Thanks! I will list the 32* to see if it is worth anything.
I am amazed at all the Olde English variations that are out there... must have been much loved in your area?

I wouldn't say Olde English 800 was "much loved". It was what you drank if you were broke and wanted to get plowed as cheaply as possible. It was sickly sweet in taste and was usually drunk from quart bottles or later on 40oz torpedoes. Cans not so much. It always gave me heartburn while drinking it and the **** the next day. We drank a lot of it in high school and in the dorms at college. I remember 3 quarts in a night made it hard to walk and you hurt in the morning.
After Blitz acquired the Olde English 800 brand via stops in Duluth & Spokane, I always got the impression that it was THE money maker for Blitz-Weinhard in that they licensed it's production under the Blitz-Weinhard name in Newark, Philadelphia, & Evansville by the mid-1960's and were nationwide in distribution. They marketed it to certain segments of society nationwide that were concerned with cheap alcohol content over taste. Their flagship brand, Blitz-Weinhard, remained largely a regional brand up until the brewery was sold to Heileman and Pabst. Pabst produced a bunch of Olde English 800 cans out of multiple cities including: Portland, Tumwater, MIlwaukee, Perry, Pabst, Newark, Peoria Heights,San Antonio (Pearl) and even produced export cans for foreign markets.

John:

That brown Falstaff design was actually marketed in three sizes, but I never knew about the 14 until just a couple years ago. As for the other two, I remember my dad going on a business trip sometime in the early 80s and bringing me back one of each that he'd emptied. Who'd have known that design would be gone so quickly?

And as long as we're on the general subject, I can get 8oz Miller Lites in north Georgia right now. I don't know if these will have much staying power, so if anybody would care for some, let me know soon and I'll try to grab more before they're gone. They're extra cool with the original label design. (Pabst thrown in for size comparison - the Lites just look like miniature 12s otherwise.)

No idea how rare these are. My wife belongs to a hiking club called Hash House Harriers. They have groups all over the world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_House_Harriers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They call themselves a drinking club with a running problem

Anyway one of the visitors to her club gave her these when she mentioned that I collect cans.

Anybody else have these? Value? They're still full, too.

The Aussie limited edition cans are a lot like the USA LTD's (value). Many collectors saved them. There are more active collectors in Australia than in the USA. But, you don't see these 2 in the states very often. A down-under collector would have a better idea of value.

Dump Them! or they will get messy, or worse. (Every box of vintage unopened cans in my inventory has a rainbow of different color molds growing inside the box) They normally open themselves through the tab, but I have some that opened themselves through the middle of the label... yes-all aluminum cans. The inner wall of the thin aluminum cans get weaker after 30 years or so and tend to dent badly during the bottom opening process.
Your two are tougher variations. Also tough are the green and the purple variations. Breweries vary too.
The 'light' beers are usually tougher than the regular.
These are non-limited edition variations that were not saved like the variations with the wildlife on them.
The no alcohol variations are probably the hardest to find but not as collectible.

Wildlife examples... still tough because they were made pre-ebay and at a time period of few collectors and at a time when most collectors had no interest in aluminum cans.

We may really never know how rare some of these cans are. Some are short runs, none were collected by many collectors and all the aluminum cans hold up very poorly outside. Most likely we have some that are as rare as the rarest cans.

Keep the pictures coming, I'm loving it!

Minnesota breweries liked to put out color-coded branded brand variations ... These make cool displays. The lights and N/A's are always tougher to find. (Opposite to the national brands where the lights are always easier to find 'Silver Bullet' 'Bud Light' Lite beer from Miller, etc.)
The Northern also came in a Low-Carb color variation not pictured..
These are from the 2000's ... Cold Spring - Northern Brewing Company

Hey John. Most all of the cans pictured in this thread can be found along I95 near DC. Been there a couple years now though. Probably a little off-grade

That is so sad!!!!! The market was so hot for them back then. Slowed down now because of the small amount of collectors after the aluminums. (no more bidding wars) BUT! I have a 'Geronimo' + a couple 'Bayside beers'
