Cool pictures of billboards and advertising....in a file folder documenting some advertising. Figured I'd share with the class today.

Pretty cool stuff! What year were these made? I would think after WWII that German advertising would not be very popular. I have no evidence to support that though.

Good question.

About fifteen years ago, I did a video interview with one of my Grandmas. As part of the interview, I asked her if she ever felt discriminated against during WWII. I knew Americans of Japanese descent were treated poorly so maybe the Americans of German descent were also treated poorly. She said she never felt anyone discriminated against her. She reasoned this was so because there were just too many Germans running around. If people would have discriminated against them, they would have had to discriminate against a large portion of town. It was easier to reason that not everyone shared in the beliefs of Hitler.

Regarding the advertising your hunch makes sense but a lot of the older Germans were slow to learn English. Since they are big beer drinkers, it would be hard to not cater to that market. Plus, a lot of the brewers were of German origin so it would be hard to ignore their own kind.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana

The procurement of said sign is still in the negotiations phase. However, there is more good news than bad that comes with it

This file folder came from the brewery archives of the company that acquired them. A few were dated 1939.
