New Ballantine IPA is available, we drank one last night

#1

Post by Farmer »

Al Aprea picked up the Ballantine IPA bottle and brought it last night to the monthly Jersey Shore Chapter meeting here at my house. It is marked "America's Original IPA" P. Ballantine & Sons, Cold Spring MN. We did a taste test and it was pretty much thumbs up all around. They did a fantastic job with the label and the back label has a lot of the history on the Ale. 26oz, 750 ml. 7.2% and 70 IBUs. Check out the 3 Ring cap, attention to detail....nice

Thats definitely a very cool bottle and I'd love to try it. I'm a fan of both IPA and resurecting old brands- beer or otherwise. I don't think the original Ballantine Ale was an IPA, however. Did they make an IPA that I'm unaware of?

So Pabst is contract brewing with Cold Spring now in addition to Miller? Are there puzzles under the cap?

no puzzle under the cap. They are trying to keep this one high end I believe, with no association with the other brands or Pabst.

Heard radio ad for Balantine and thought I was hearing things. Surely radio guy must've said Sam Adams and I projected Ballantine from my thoughts. Strange how digging Ballantines is such a drag (they're everywhere and they NEVER clean) but hearing it's (sort of) back made me so happy.

That's a good looking bottle, thanks cool! I'm glad the flavor is good too. Any possibility of cans in the future?

I just bought the only six-pack of 12-ouncers in the local cooler last night. Gorgeous package, nice crown, and the IPA was okay.

On the other hand, P. Ballantine and Sons, Cold Spring, Minnesota? That ain't right.

Cool bottle and cap.
About the cap: is there anything on the cap to indicate it is of this vintage? In other words, in the future, what will keep beer collectors from being confused about when this cap came from, 2014 or 1940/50''s?
Just curious.

The plastic back (not cork/foil) will probably give it away

About 9 months later Ballantine IPA is available in Florida. And in cans to boot. Was pretty good.
