If that is what I think it is, then YES it was worth a 10 hour drive.

I was hoping to hear back from both MarkB and Matt but guess they didn't take the bait yet.......I thought this might be worth adding to the Canvention quart display....I don't have the full salesman sampler kit but I do happen to have the can displayed in many of the Continental Can Company Quart cone top ads including the one on page 200 of the USBC book...

Can came from a collector in west Florida (but not originally from Florida) that collected during the seventies and remembers that his father happened to get it for him but doesn't remember where. He had that can and a bunch of flats and cone tops but this can was the one that made it worth the drive since the seller indicated that he would not ship any cans.

I knew when I saw this can in the corner of a picture that I'd do anything to have it....especially considering the RB Canvention display......so I see it as part of a Craigslist posting for a small town west of Tallahassee late on a Friday evening...so I send an e-mail not expecting a response back that evening. There were a few other nice cones and flats listed with it. The lister specified that he would not ship anything and it would be pick up only. I knew if I wanted to get the can I'd have to leave early on Saturday morning since he was about 4 1/2 to 5 hours away. I rolled out early (0530) with another follow-up e-mail with my phone # and told him I was heading his direction. I thought I'd hit flea markets and antique malls if anything. Rare to find anything tho here in Florida. So I get as far as Lake City and stop in an antique mall I had never been in before. Guy saw me sitting in my car and let me come in early. Depart and still no response via either e-mail or phone. I have to go in instinct and hope. I make it to Tallahassee stop in an antique store, depart and drop him another quick e-mail to let him know I'm in Tallahassee (still about 45 mins away from his location) and he's welcome to call. Now it's about 1030 and I'm thinking he would have read the e-mails by now. I was prepared to spend the weekend if I had to. I start heading towards the Tallahassee flea market and the phone rings.............this is a god...he still had the collection and said I could come to his location.
I'm driving and find myself in the middle of nowhere in Florida which is easy to do in the panhandle. I'm passing places that I'd kill to look behind but know I don't dig alone in Florida........to many chances for a snake to bite your ***. Of course I have no phone service. I told him I'd call just before I arrive....no luck. Thank god for GPS's. It took me right to his door which happened to be right down this nearly 2 mile dirt road. He has the boxes outside and I run up to look for the can. I didn't want to make it too obvious so as I saw it on the top of one box I poked around the other box and then after a few glanced over and he say "yeah what can you tell me about that can?" I told him how it was used for a salesman kit for Continental can company. I even showed him the ad on page 200 of the USBC book. He liked that I knew about the can. I also told him about our display at the upcoming Canvention and he said he was excited that the can made it into the right hands. I told him I'd be sure to send pictures from the display. I crammed all the boxes in my Mustang after carefully wrapping the quart. The other two big boxes was just all steel tabs. I told him could keep all the aluminum.
I'm not sure but if he didn't hear me scream as I was pulling out I'm sure the few other houses down the road did. I look forward to bring it to the Canvention for others to enjoy seeing it as much as I did getting it.

Never would have thought it was that gold / copper color! Like being amazed when you see a colorized version of a classic movie like "It's a Wonderful Life".
"Although the cans will be of no value after opened, their cost is expected to be small..." Iowa: June 22, 1935

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?
