POLL: What type of club membership?

#1

Post by Randy Karasek »

Based on other recent topics, I am curious how many collectors are a member of both the RB and the BCCA. You don't need to be a member of either chapter to post here which is why the "no chapter" option.

Me personally I am only a RB, not BCCA since 2007, and don't understand the argument that collectors must support the BCCA for health of the hobby? Maybe just my opinion, but to me the hobby is collectors with similar interests, numerous organized and family friendly shows (there were numerous wives and kids at recent Mini Can), open venues (member or just walk in public) for buy/sell/trade, tons of information online (shows, message board, rosters, newsletters, history, can pictures, catalogs, etc). I get all the content I need from the RB, and don't see the BCCA ever embracing my interests.

I know there are members here that are RB only, not BCCA, and I know more than a handful former BCCA members that no longer belong to the parent club. Really curious if this is just a small number or a reasonable percentage.

I am a BCCA member, a Rustybunch member, a Bluebonnet Chapter member (my local chapter where I serve as an officer and have for years), a Lone Star Chapter member, as well as an on and off member of at least four other chapters.

Thanks for the poll voting. I was curious how the the website polling would correlate with the RB membership in general, and my opinion the numbers match up very well.

From this poll of 96 collectors, 72% belong to both the BCCA and RB, but 24% just belong to the RB. This is 22 responders that are not BCCA members.

From the overall RB roster of 426 members, 76% belong to both the BCCA and RB, but 24% just belong to the RB. This is 103 total RB members that do not belong to the BCCA, or at least list a RB number but not a BCCA number. Even given some margin of error, there are still approximately 100 RB members that don't belong to the BCCA. Not a good percentage.

Do you belong to the BCCA Randy? Notice no BCCA number on your profile. If not, is there a simple single thing that could change to make you join.....or is it a much more nuanced and complex question?

I have been more than vocal on my reasons why NO, and I just don't see things changing. Lots of great people running the BCCA, just something majorly flawed in the decision making process. The hobby moves forward or not, regardless...
