e-mail Hacked

#1

Post by bradflinders »

some of you may have received a bogus e-mail from me saying I was mugged in Turkey and needed money for hotel bills, etc. I'm alive and well here is the US and none of this happened. I've changed my e-mail password so all should be well again.

Brad

Brad,
Being an emergency situation.. and knowing how impossible it can be to get out of a Turkish prison once you've entered. I immediately forwarded 10k to the link to help you. Does that mean I'm screwed?

Several years ago, I had just consummated the sale of a couple of opening instruction beer cans to Tom Rutledge of Beer Can's Plus.

Several weeks after making that sale of beer cans to Tom, I received an email from Tom stating that he and his wife were in London on vacation and that they were mugged out on the streets of London.

Tom stated in the email that their wallets were stolen with all of their identification, cash and credit cards and Tom stated that he was in desperate need of some immediate cash in order to be able to check out of the hotel that they were staying in while waiting for the replacement of their credit cards and emergency cash from his credit card company.

It all seemed very legitimate to me as the email that I had received from Tom was during the same exact time that there was rioting in the streets of London - its was on CNN.

The only problem of course was that Tom had never left the good ole USA and he was safe at home in Michigan and he was not the victim of a mugging on the streets of London.

I was literally ready to wire Tom some cash, but something told me to call Tom on his cell phone before I did and when I phoned him, I learned from Tom that his email address book had been hacked by some crook and that the same email that I had received had also been sent out to a number of other folks in his email address book.

There are some very creative criminals out there that make you have to question everything that you see, hear and read no matter how legitimate it may seem at first and even second glance.
