How is Brad Flinders?

#1

Post by Pokey »

I received this email this morning. Anyone else get one?

It sure doesn't sound like Brad.
Good Morning,

Hope you get this on time,I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,I came down here to Turkey for a short vacation unfortunately I was mugged at the park of the hotel where I stayed, all cash, credit card and mobile phone were stolen off me but luckily for me I still have my passports with me.

I've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and My flight leaves any moment from today but I'm having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me leave until I settle the bills,

I'm freaked out at the moment,I need your help out??

Thanks
Brad Flinders

I got the same email. Poor Brad "with tears in his eyes". I've never met Brad but have seen his various work pictures and I figured there was no way he would have used that phrase. So even with the grammar pretty good I knew the email account was hacked. I just didn't know if it was mine or his!

QUESTION? How do these things work. You will notice in the copy and paste of the email Pokey provided, there is not a place to send money even if you were dump enough to want to. You can't see in the copy and paste version but on the original email Brad's name and address is highlight blue to be clicked on. I'm assuming the click is what these scumbags want. What happens if you do click?

My guess is that if you respond to the bogus email (sporzfan @ aol.com) or maybe call the phone number (I don't know Brad's real phone number) then they would give you instructions on how to wire cash.

Instead, I posted here and sent him a PM. Just in case Brad was in trouble.

I get bogus emails daily. This was the first one using an RB member's name.

Very bogus. Now if he were visiting Turkey in Reno for gallon cans, then there might be something to it.

Usually when Brad is in the middle east, he carries an M-16. The bad guys are usually the ones with tears in their eyes.

I also received an email from him. Made me feel sorry that he had to go all the way to Turkey just to shoot a few turks. I mean......

I had to re-read the email a few times, the first couple of times I could swear it said something about shooting turkeys...or shooting something in turkey...or something...

Too bad some sort of reverse scam can't be pulled on these guys...Any brilliant ideas?

If any one talks to Brad, please tell him his writing is atrocious.

1. You are supposed to leave a space after a comma.
2. It should be "hope you get this IN time". This is not the correct context for "on time" since no schedule has been determined.
3. "I came down here to Turkey" - down from where? USUALLY in American vernacular, "down" refers to traveling south.
4. American vernacular again - one is usually mugged IN a park, not AT a park. And what hotel has a park anyway?
5. "all cash, credit card..." when using "all" it suggests that you have more than one something, so credit card should be plural as well as mobile phone.
6. Where is Brad from that he would use the phrase "stolen off me"? Stolen FROM me would make more sense.
7. He still has his passports? How many? Usually a person would only have one. Is Brad an International Spy?
8. "until I settle the bills," - usually a sentence ends with a period, not a comma.
9. "I need your help out??" Shouldn't this be "I need your help" or "Could you help me out".

I think Brad has been in Turkey for so long he has picked up the local dialect for misspoken English. I hope he is able to get out.

Received the same email at 0627 4/22/14. Sounds like a scam or some sort of not so funny email from an email account left open. Hopefully all is well and Brad will report in soon.

Just saw a message on FaceBook from Brad. It said...

In case you are wondering and contrary to the e-mail many of you may have received I am not in Turkey. I did not get mugged and I don't need money for plane fare and hotel costs. Please disregard the offending e-mail sent out by some jerk (not on my behalf)
