Not the toughest, but up there is the Hamm's Draft from Houston. There were only a hand full of off-grade cans known until a couple of years ago when a case of unlidded cans were found. All of the nice ones I have seen came from this find.

The Ray Meyer Old Style is a tough one, but not impossible. It is shown in the American Beer Cans 1975-1988 book, 36-22. It might go for $20-50 depending on how much someone wants one. It is only known as a 12 oz. bank as far as I know.

Which book is that? I have about every beer can book made and I don't remember this one.

I think if it is in a book, it wouldn't be any where close to the rarest aluminum can. If we were talking aluminum bottle-cans, the rarest ABC's are so rare that they don't exist. (only in photos and memories)

@oldmoneytexan: The American Beer Cans 1975-88 book is a thin paperback book published by the BCCA that shows pretty much every can that was in the BCCA magazines between 1975 and 1988. It has a red white and blue cover. I found a picture of the cover. For my money, there may be some truly rare cans in this book. They were shown, but nobody cared (especially later cans) and nobody saved them.

Oh yea, one of the Old Style "Bucks" cans.

This book may hold the answer to the question of the first craft brew can. Lots of aluminum in there.

On a side note, it lists the light green background Pearl 39-16 as a "no issue" test can. I have found them on the side of the road, so they were issued in small batches at least. Still trying to find one bottom opened.

Furn Texas Cans.jpg
The can on the left is a Castle can from South Africa. It was sold at a rugby match between a South African team, and a Texas team, in Houston, Texas, on December 1st, 2001. It was only sold at that event on that day. Please correct me if I am wrong, but this is the only can known to exist in a collection. I got it from a South African client that attended the event. More may be out there, but they are in the hands of South African rugby fans, not beer can collectors.

No, its not for sale, but please make me an offer if you insist

I think they mean it did not appear in an issue of the magazine but they got an example to photograph when they produced the book.
I have other cans that say "no issue", but not "test" below the photo.

I'm still trying to find a lime green Pearl bottom opened as well. I have dumped them myself and know they were issued. If anybody has a bottom opened one I'll gladly take that "worthless" aluminum off your hands!

The green pearl was sold to the public, and I dumped a few near my house when I was a kid. Finding one bottom opened is a tall order. Over all the years, I have seen two or three.
