Florida National Bohemian question
I got a Florida National Bohemian that either has Orlando or Miami Blacked out & replaced with Baltimore. Has anybody else ever seen this Variation before? Is it tough or common? LEON.

Re: Florida National Bohemian question
I received one if not both from either Menke or Millet. The 16s are both Miami with one blacked out. The blacked out then has two baltimores. The nonblack 12 is Detroit (meant to grab Orlando), while the blacked out is Miami.
Yours is probably Miami, a very difficult can with or without the blackout.
Only other one I have seen.

Re: Florida National Bohemian question
I have dumped gazillions of natty bohs and I have never seen one before. I agree with Chris Eib, a rare can.

I have had the great privilege of dumping with 68 current and former Rusty Bunch members, to date. Got to hit the woods of Virginia with Charlie Smigo recently.

Re: Florida National Bohemian question
Never seen one of those before. I'm guessing the 12 oz. Natty Bo is Orlando. AB bought the Orlando plant from National in '61 and shut it down. You know, the old "buy the competition and close them to increase market share." This apparently drew the ire of the Justice Department and AB was forced to sell the Regal plant in Miami (which went to National and they operated it til '75). Round about way of saying that 12 oz. can looks like it fits the '61 time line and National probably sent the leftover Orlando stock up to Baltimore to reuse. Also, the Orlando plant never canned 16's, but Miami did.
Always looking for West Virginia breweriana from Fesenmeier and Parkersburg.

Re: Florida National Bohemian question
I agree with Joe that Orlando makes more sense because the Orlando plant was closed when National bought the Miami plant. Miami remained opened until the Carling National merger in 1976.
I heard a different story on the brewery situation in Florida. National bought the Marlin brewery in Orlando in 1956 to enter into the Florida market. Meanwhile, Anheuser Busch purchased the American Brewery in Miami in 1958 to tap the Florida market as well. AB's purchase was a temporary measure until their new, state of the art plant was completed in Tampa in 1959. Two years after Tampa came on line, AB put the old Miami plant on the block in 1961. Although Miami was "outdated" by AB's standards, it was larger and more efficient than the Marlin plant in Orlando, so National purchased Miami and closed Orlando.

Re: Florida National Bohemian question
Being a big fan of both Natty Bo and Florida cans I was excited when this blacked out version was made available on buy it now on eBay. I was also glad to find this thread discussing this can. I'd agree with @Joe Older and @Longhorn Mike that the blacked out wording is likely Orlando Florida but even using paint to blow it up I'm unable to tell. Having both Orlando and Miami cans it is hard to tell based on just the text size since both are the same size.

Re: Florida National Bohemian question
Never seen a Black Label blacked out. What city is blacked out on that can? Ft. Worth? Phoenix?
Rare I assume?
I want one.

Re: Florida National Bohemian question
Looks like "MASS. PERMIT NO. 3" would be under the black out of this 1961-1963 16-oz Black Label.
Natick, Mass. should be on the other side of the seam.
Never seen this black out before.
