monticello Extravaganza pics

Post by ANGRY GARY »

there was alot of cans here this year. bob gould's collection is starting to see the ligh of day. Tommy Leo was kind enough to help Linda price Bob's cans. and they were priced to move. the feeding frenzy was fast and furious friday and saturday. Linda strategically put out new cans every so often to keep everyone on their toes. if you collected quarts, crowntainers and cones and you missed this show then you missed out on a heck of a lot of killer cans and killer prices.

and in the words of Leon,"click to supersize"

I would have been in beer can heaven had there been a way to have been there and have no doubts that I would have left flat broke. :smt007 Sure wish I could have been there to dig in those crowntainers, quarts and to find out if a deal could be made with Peter on that Jax and Old Union. Sure they are long gone though. Thanks for posting pictures. :smt023

*Sigh.*

Our relatives bought us tickets to Dollywood so I got to spend the day baking in the sun instead of slobbering over all those goodies. That 16oz Tudor is friggin' amazing, and whomever bought it got a deadly cool can.

It was a great show. Big thanks to all the guys who did the planning and set up!!!!

Here are a few more pics.

Joe P. waits for sales.
Image

Matt (left) waits for more pint sales.
Image

The line up by ranking after the tasting, from worst to best.

Image

My take homes.
First row are new cans. (as is the White Horse quart)
Second row are upgrades.
third row were possible variations. The Naty Boh bock was indeed a variation I needed and the white Senate was a slight upgrade, although not a variation.

Monticello is a great show. I did better there than I did at Blue/Gray this year. Good drinking too.

Thanks to Robert Fondren, Linda Gould, Mark Crane, Mark Benbow, and Chip Sims for a ton of new shelvers, and to all of y'all for the Sunday morning hangover. Swam the pool twice, visited Jefferson's house, ate at Eppie's and at Michie's Tavern, bowled, did the Discovery Museum, allowed the ladies of Charlottesville right of way in the crosswalk, walked around at UVA and visited Poe's dorm room, all of that.

What a great time.

It looks like there were more Florida cans at this show than any southern show I've been to in the last 20 years!! Rhein King???? San Souci? Straight Eight cones? I guess I've got to start heading north for all of the good Florida stuff :smt009

Spectacular picks, I'm suffering from a severe case of "show" envy. I heard one of my holy grail cans was there, the non instructional Peter Doelger, I also heard Matt picked up a Tru Blu 10oz cone, and there were red K man Krueger quarts! Hopefully, next years Blue/Gray will have more of the same. Who won the beer can bowling tournament? Thanks very much for posting the pics.

Guys,
Here is my take. The Piels can was a bucket list can for many years. The Knickerbocker is a serious upgrade. Did better at this show than at few CANventions.

Super time, easy and relaxing show. Chris did a wonderful job - AGAIN! Brought the family this year and made a mini-vacation out of it. We had very fresh and tasty Chinese/Thai food across the street on Saturday night......
