Trip to Minnesota

Postby Kotto on July 28th, 2010, 11:45 pm

Just got back from a quick trip to Minnesota, and the cooler weather and lower humidity alone made the plane ticket worth while. Visited my girlfriend's sister and family in Rosemount (St. Paul suburb) for a few days, then off to Elbow Lake about three hours northwest of Minneapolis to stay on the lake with her folks. Yes, I can now say that I've been to Mall of America, but also toured the Summit Brewery by afternoon, then dinner at Great Waters Brewery (in one of the old Hamm's Brewery Buildings). Good food, company, beer and buzz.

Did a little antique store hopping and did OK, I think. I found the Kato Minnesota Lager bottle and Schmidt flat tops in Fergus Falls, the Grain Belt irtp cone in Morehead, and the Gluek's cone in Alexandria. Paid a total of $41 for all of them, which doesn't seem too bad. The Kato bottle is available if anyone wants it.

Minnesota guys, there is a place in Alexandria called Now and Then Antiques on Broadway. In the basement are tons of itrp bottles like Grain Belt, Regal (Duluth), Royal Bohemian, etc. Also, lots of straight steel soda cans and some decent flat top and cone top beer cans. Most seemed priced reasonably, but I had to limit how much I bought considering limited space n luggage. Check it out.

My only regret is that I didn't have time to visit with any MN collectors. Next time!

Thanks for sharing Kotto. It does cost less to mail a box of cans than to check a bag at the airport - the world has gone crazy.

Actually, the checked bag fee can be a good deal. I have this huge 3 foot long hardened box filled with hundreds of hard cardboard tubes (looks like you sawed the end off a boiler) that is uncrushable. I can take about 4 totes worth of cans to a show in it for only $25 on the plane.
I dump cans and cars, if you find old cars & trucks while dumping, please let me know.

I am right at an hour south of Rosemount--just a hop skip and jump away down Hwy 52. Lot's of collectors up this way (in Minn.) for anyone to stop by and see some collections for all you RB'ers who may be travelling.
Looks like some nice pick-ups. I rarely see anything that good in the antique stores I stop in.

GLUEKHEAD, we'll get together on the Falstaff posters one of these days! Guz & Twirl is unlikely for me this year tho. I've not ruled it out yet however!
