One of America's Great Beer Drinkers

#1

Post by bradflinders »

I've been a huge music fan since the early 1960's. I read today where music photographer Jim Marshall died this morning. I was very familiar with alot of his work...he had photographed over 500 album covers starting in the 50's. I was going through his catalog of photographs this morning and came across this one that I had to share. I dont' think this artist was that well known for his beer drinking prowess. Thsi photo was taken in 1967.

I'm assuming since the average age of the typical male beer can collector is 59, everyone knows who that is drinking the 16 oz Lucky Lager??

For us older guys, his face is an icon. Didn't realize he drank Lucky though. Proper spelling is Jimi Hendrix. I still have some of his albums on vinyl.

Brad - That's a great pic. Looks like it was taken at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Jimi is yuking it up with future Band of Gypsys drummer Buddy Miles (then with Electric Flag). Wonder if this pic was before or after he torched his guitar at the show? Somewhere I may have another picture of Jimi downing some canned beer. I was not aware of Jim Marshall's work, but its interesting that Jimi Hendrix full name is James Marshall Hendrix

I read where Hendrix used to soak is headbands in Burgermeister so that during concerts when he sweated the beer would be absorbed into his pores giving him a nice beer buzz

Funny I heard he used to put hits of acid between his head and headband so when he would sweat he would absorb it. i think this would work much better than beer anyday! :smt023 :rr: :bounce: :compress: :shaking2:

gotta love jimi i am from where he is buried at and lived for a long time. i have a lot of friends that still live in renton where he is buried, just outside of seattle . i have spent a lot of time as a youngster at his grave site drinking beer and smoking funny stuff when i was in high school. they have since built a memorial to him, i think they did it because of the ground getting tore up on all the other graves from so many people.

i have a friend that's father worked at the cemetery where jimi is buried ( greenwood ) that actually has a headstone marker that is made out of concrete that says j. hendrix that was a temporary marker before the funeral. i talked to his dad a few times that ran the crematory before he past away and he said it was crazy! people trying to dig up graves at night. they had to move jimi a few times just to get him away from fans.

i will take pictures of all the jimi stuff while i am down there. might be a few weeks but stay tuned.
pbr me asap
