That would be a good option for the rest of us. Maybe I will watch for something on eBay.

There you go! Anybody for a nice can of Zing?

Here's the thing, though, and I suppose it could be a legitimate consideration: we get away with sampling the nasty old beers because the alcohol content prevents pathogens from ever getting a foothold. There are none that are capable of living in a alcoholic environment, and it's also why I personally don't make a point of sampling anything that's less than full or that opens with zero pressure release. Either condition indicates that the alcohol could have evaporated off and something creepy could have gotten in.

In the case of a near beer, there's only a trace of alcohol even when it's fresh...so I guess the moral of the story is to make sure your container is completely full before tasting, because the beverage itself doesn't have the same natural defense against the heebie jeebies as standard beer or ale.

I was 12 in 1974 and because of beer can collecting, Olde Froth was the first beer I ever tried. It was a few years before I tried another.

I would like to be considered for inclusion, based on the multiple vintage Bock beers tasted at Blue/Gray over the years
Gunther, Graupner, Tivoli, Old Export, Acme, Fitzgerald, Bavarian,Ballantine (can and bottle), Frankenmuth (can and bottle),and so many more. No doubt ads up to more than a full can of beer, but I've also (please verify, Mr. Launt) consumed an entire Atlas Prager Bock can on a wager. The bet-drink the full can, and it's yours! That was at the NJ Canvention, I believe.
BUT I would humbly suggest that Number ZERO be given posthumously to Jim Dixon. He drank any number of aged beers out of Mr. Van Hines' refrigerator while staying with him at the Mid-Michigan show, as well as swigging uncounted past their primes at the Charlottesville show in the 90's.

For any of you who may be new here and are not sure exactly what is being talked about here, this amateur video below made by a former
aspiring videographer will explain things better than perhaps 10,000 words could. The setting is the Mid-Michigan chapter winterfest show held in January
every year in Flint, MI, it was the first winterfest show after Dave Van Hine left us, he was greatly missed, having always presided over the taste test
for as long as I can remember.

The person holding the samples up is none other than our very own web master, Dan Bora, and I believe I sampled the Utica Club bock beer
that cold and snowy winter morning in Flint, MI, although the morning had slipped away into afternoon at the time of filming. I suppose this also
qualifies me for admittance per the aforementioned criteria.

Mr. Romine, you are a fully qualified member and One Percenter. Your credentials are impeccable, and your witness base, legendary. You are also perfectly on point with Jim Dixon. Maybe we need our own HoF.

Mr. Dewey, U.C. Bock is a meritorious qualifier. And thanks again for the video of Dave.

If Dewey qualifies I should qualify. About 10 years I was at the Flint Winterfest show & participated in the Famous Van Hine tast test. It was a 1955 Pabst bock, the gold can. It was nice & cold & had a foam head & fizz, It was actually pretty good & think it got like 3 stars. I'm pretty sure Wheaton & Chris & Marc & Bora was there. I only took one small sip, did not drink the whole plastic cup. Does a sip Qualify me in admittance to this Prestigious group? LEON.

I'm in!

Have had many tasters but most memorable was at B/G with you, Dave Sufferdini and I think Kiethker when we drank the BL cone I bought from Budbock. Luckily we had your shine to kill the germs!

Good memories.

Yes, Leon, I was there! In fact, I opened that can - it was at a Winterfest in Flint. You're in.

Leon Hampton, IGU#16
Oliver Lindsay, IGU#17

That 'shine will take down bigger game than germs - it damn near killed Aho! Kurt threatened me with bodily punishment if I ever, ever gave Jon another bolt of the white lightning. Then again, I failed to mention to Jon that 1/2" in the bottom of a Dixie cup is intended for sipping, not gulping. He took a sniff, then slugged the whole thing. And I immediately thought, "Oh, my God - I've felled a legend."

Thankfully, he lived to drink another day. Go, Jonny, Go!

Sounds fun! We can use new 1% inductees. Do you want any of those cans I was going to bring to Hendersonville? I can offer past-their-prime domestics, imports, or 8oz flattops...

Edward Hicks is IGU#20. Welcome!

It would be fun to give Art and Mike their own numbers. Alas, I'm doing this on a response-only basis because some folks either don't use this forum much, or wouldn't want to be included for their own reasons, and I can respect that. It takes a special kind of weird to desire association with this...association. *Ahem* But we here in the Brotherhood sort of thrive on weird, so welcome one and all who care to be recognized!

That Southern Select, by the way, actually looks clear and almost beer-like! Wish I could say the same for the Grand Prize. How were they?
