Re: Louisiana Beer-related Photos Part 1

Great bunch of photos. Some of these are new to me. Nice job finding 4-X and Wirthbru, which are more obscure New Orleans brands. I've got a few at home, I'll share later. Love seeing the old signs. They used to be all over town, now only a handful remain.

A thank you Matt- for making the best of a sad thing. And what kind of monster shoots a Schmidt Bock QT? First, I've seen collections that were sold off, and it's a tough and sad job. Much thanks for what you're doing. In other news: Police have identified a suspect in the Schmidt Bock quart shooti...

I've been searching my cans for guitar-related cans. I have found several local ones, but they are all sticker cans so far. That's what most of our brewers use except maybe for their flagship brands. I'll have my traders out of the attic this weekend because I'm going to a show, so I'll compile what...

That's an impressive variety of beer and ale for back in those days. Looks like a modern craft beer bar. Of course, all I have to go by is here, and in those days, four local brewers owned the market- Dixie 45, Jax, Regal, and Falstaff.

If we're talking worst beers, that isn't very hard. No particular order, just how they come to mind. 1. Nasty Light. This disgusting concoction often gives me a nasty headache behind my left eye. If it's the only option, I'm generally staying sober. 2. Olde English 800 ML- tastes like drinking varni...

I have seen several friends post remembrances of this important historical date on Facebook, and not a one of them has had a "share" button.

As a big history buff, this bothers me. History is vitally important. My two cents.

I checked our local Total Wine over the weekend, and New Orleans has the America cans.

I see that someone has already said they have you covered for those. If you need more America cans, let me know. Would be cool if they would do New Orleans once. Maybe one day.

Re: preparing for the zombie apocalypse

If you drink a six-pack a day, it would only take 308 days to kill that big package. (last day you'd only have 2 cans). Not that bad. I think there are some people here who could actually accomplish this feat. A handful might even be able to drink all that beer a little faster. The problem I see is ...

We've wrestled with the question for years- how do we attract younger people into the hobby? May I throw out some ideas? I think that the first place to look to answer this question is what got us into accumulating (usually) empty adult beverage containers? And how do we spark that same curiosity an...

Due to the high cost of aluminum cans and the rising revenues of Jax Brewing’s cold storage operation, Ostner’s son sold his Jax Beer copyright to New Orleans-based Jackson Brewing Company in 1956. a Jacksonville Jax question

I see it reprinted in just about any reference to brewing history in New Orleans that the Jackson Brewing Company in New Orleans bought the rights to the name "Jax" from the Jacksonville Brewing Company, which also produced a Jax Beer for quite a while, in 1956. I can't find anything to ve...

Split label? What does this mean? It refers to the 2-color alternating gold and green border around the white label. It differentiates it from a similar later design in which the border is solid green. Glad someone beat me to asking the question. So I'm guessing that the later can with the solid gr...
