Re: Flat Bottom cone tops
I guess it's all speculation, I've not heard any discussion of this problem in early cones from guys who dig flat bottom cones or the engineers who made them. Seam bulging is another story. Continental made perfectly fine flat lids, it seems. I haven't heard this question yet and it got me thinking....

Thanks for the nudge! Steve has been WAAAY too patient... here's an updated pic. IMG_2478.jpg I rubbed off the flower but Candog's magic treatment wouldn't touch the black undercoat. It is a Cardinal of course, in nice shape under there. I emailed Steve about sending it to someone else but must've e...

Re: 25 Worst Beers
Baltimore Magazine used to run best-of lists, and the coincidence of brewers advertising in their magazine and winning medals ran a solid 100%. These lists often have such coincidences. The hard part is not personal taste, but the fact that so much beer out there is stale and not representative of t...

Re: The little ball in a can of Guinness
Guinness spent millions developing nitro beer; it's funny because Guinness is sold all over the world and each one is different. They even make it with millet in Africa, a grain that we feed to birds here. Some poor engineer has to fly everywhere and figure out how to make it taste right. The thing ...

Re: My newest "Andy's" Hillmans OI
Buying any of them encourages even more to be made. Not the worst thing in the world to have a few grail cans out there. And oddly, at this point it's not the dealers, it's our fellow collectors who are driving up prices. And there's the upside of encouraging folks to go dig and find their own cans,...

Cool- I was your backup as I'll be in Mass next week. thanks for saving me from so much more beer. Can we still deliver to Joe G. for shipment to you, or is there some other arrangement? Occasionally his stuff out-performs the other auctions' results, too. It's a great example of the niche opened up by the top couple dealers going so heavily with ongrade and high-dollar stuff. There's LOTS of room to offer up stuff a tier or two or three below them and still do well for consignors a...

Best $5 Old Tap cone you've ever seen
Day late, dollar short- I meant to post this on the holiday show but I got busy and fell asleep. Placefiller from a New England show a couple years ago, great outdoor face but the back is, well, toast. $5 for the can and can deliver to B/G or Spring Thaw, or ship first class for $4. Thanks for the story- it gives me a ray of hope as a perennial underbidder. When I think about all those cans where I ended up #2, if I'd landed them all, I just have to sigh. Thanks Marc also for the tip on the cone I'd asked about a few months ago. It just arrived yesterday, paid for mostly by scr...

It still boggles my mind that the two big can companies just got bought and merged literally out of existence over the years. How can you just... sigh. So much business, down the toilet.

I saw that info on the site, I was wondering more if it's a version of the Haydock stuff at Oldenburg. Just one nice large collection on display, or is it more museum-y with archives or history aside from the expensive sexy things we all like to look at?

Re: preparing for the zombie apocalypse
that's a top 10 beer story ever. I once gave Michael Jackson (the writer) a ride from a book signing/beer tasting/festival to his hotel the night before an early flight home. Except all the one-way streets were closed off and I circled midtown Baltimore 4 times before finding his hotel. I cost the m...

Anybody ever see skeeter dawson's billy garage? I sent him maybe 150 over the years. Has Paschedag ever done anything with his white Rheingold mountain? Me, I'm totally keeping my Red Devil (Black Label) collection. It's still in the Virginia backyard where I found it, not worth the gas to bring home.

Re: Morean Auction 8-28-2022
There are a few grail cans out there for me, and Dan is auctioning them off with some regularity. So I have to watch, and save. I've consigned a few cans off the shelf for these auctions (Not Dan's, I rarely have trade bait of that quality), some of which have sold for "too much" money and...
