Re: 4-hour round trip, half a tank a gas, and a $100 bill

It's one of my favorite can designs. The first time I dug a woodgrain Hyde Park was the late 1970s near Piedmont, MO. I brought home two, but I didn't know what they were because they were dirty and pretty rusted. I could sure see the woodgrain though! I hadn't yet discovered oxalic, so Naval Jelly ...

I guess it was worthwhile, if for no other reason than I may have saved it from being tossed in the dumpster....

bodean, do you know about the BCCA Missouri Ozarks Chapter? There is a show and picnic at Mike and Michele Fritz place next weekend July 22. Near Elkland, not too far north of Springfield. I'll be there.

Re: I'd like a tasty brown ale to choke down my crow

I ended up getting a few boxes of dumpers from the late Allen Riese. Apparently he found them near his home in Theodosia years ago, in the Bull Shoals Lake area. None had been cleaned, including this one. So I got to soak it in oxalic to see how it might do. I suppose that's pretty close to digging ...

For many years I've debated that a true Canadian Ace zip top from Chicago does not exist. I needed to see a dumper to believe it. Here it is, found in southern Missouri. Not the first time I've had to eat a bite of crow.

Dang, that Centlivre is a thing of beauty, not to mention the "no banner" Prager. I don't think that Santa is going to be able to help me here, but at least I have the joy of seeing a couple nice specimens.

Tollware cone top

There is some one here in my area who has a painted toleware cone top, and he is wanting some help getting the over paint off. I am aware of the nice tutorials here, but he would rather have some one do it for him, either for a reasonable fee or another can in trade. He usually has some nice stuff. ...

Thank you Scott, and thanks everyone for being so kind with your words. SO glad that most of you were drunk! As Frank Zappa so memorably put it:

"We didn't have no dope or LSD, But a coupla quarts a beer
Would fix it so the intonation, Would not offend yer ear"

Nice.

Well rat piss, Marion and I have it too. Fully vaccinated and boosted, so not too worried about us. Just bad cold symptoms so far. A bit worried about the older folks though. Everyone spent a lot of time in each other's faces having fun, so I fear that we may be at the tip of an illness-iceberg.

Love the fan tab! I found one in about that condition in the Ozarks in the late 1980s. The Lewandowski Bros talked me out of it in a trade many moons ago. Where it went when they sold out is a mystery, but it probably belongs to one of the fine gentlemen listed in JohnnyAho's post!

Re: Stag brewed in Texas???

Whoops, yep, I had intended to type Lone Star and not sure how Pearl came out instead!

Thank you for the history lesson. I have good knowledge of Stag up through the closing of the Belleville plant, but after that, not so much. I suspect that this a common can that I had just been overlooking.

Stag brewed in Texas???

With so many of you being so much smarter than me, who can provide an explanation for a Stag can brewed in San Antonio by Pearl? Post-Heileman but pre-Miller ownership? It is a ring tab, so pre-stay tab era.

My brothers Rick and Kevin were with him a few weeks ago at a petroliana show. Gary mostly collects oil in...

One more with Scott from the 1990 trip. Starting with me on the far left and going around the front of the table: Tom, Scott, Bill, Dick, Mike, and Bob. Rick was taking the photo. We stayed in that cabin for three or four nights, drank a heck of a lot of beer, and found a ton of dumps and cans. A te...

1990 "Rusty Bunch Round Up" at Lake of the Ozarks, from left to right Bob Lavelle, John Kottemann, Mike Murphy, Tom Chegash, Rick Kottemann, Dick Wilson, Scott Rollert, and Bill Boyles. We've lost Mike, Dick, and Scott. Geez, I'm starting to feel like a Tontine.
