Re: Ruppert Beer Variant (book oversight or unknown)

I have the 'no stars' and it is a Continental can from plant 48. Also have the can with one star on each side, which is an American Keglined can.
The book doesn't recognize can company variations, but probably should with the 'star' difference.

when did that alum J Rupperts Knick come out? never saw it, is it recent or what? looks pretty cool
Probably early 1990s, by G. Heileman, La Crosse and has the government warning. I drank plenty of Knick back in the day and never saw it. Got it from someone here at the RB a few years ago.

Re: What Do You Consider A Retro Can?

My idea of a retro can would be a can that is a "throwback" to a previous design and a departure from the one or more designs that were in use between them. While not always an exact copy, it should have the look and feel of the older design. The pictures below show Budweiser, Lite, Miller High Life...

Re: From FEB WWII Campsite Italy OD cans

Looking at the Schaefer box and info on the box, there is another possibility: The box contained the withdrawn free Schaefer USBC 127-35 which is pre-war but not an olive drab can. The JCQMD-P.O. (Jersey City Quarter Master Depot Purchase Order) would have been a purchase for military personnel stat...

Re: I just bought a ton of sports cards.

I still have tens of thousands of cards from 1980s until 1994 with many hand collated sets in mint condition. Recently went through some of them to check what they were selling for on ebay and was shocked to see prices in the pennies for superstars, hall of famers, rookies, chase cards, etc. Lots of...

Bev-Pak of Scotia, New York is a canner of supermarket and private label soda/pop brands.

Soaked the cans in oxalic for about 2-3 hours. Cleaned up okay, nice colors, but too many holes. Missing are the two mystery cans, both Bosch, both terrible.
Since they are not in collectible grade, I am using them to decorate the patio. My non-collecting friends find them interesting.

It should follow that the most common clean bottom-opened zips would be from the nationals and large regional brewers. Budweiser, Schlitz, Pabst, Miller, Black Label, and Falstaff for nationals. Ballantine beer, Ruppert, Schaefer, Rheingold, Strohs, Hamms, Lucky, Olympia, Busch, Old Milwaukee, Drewr...

Here is another way: After clicking on a sold listing, it might give you a similar item with a blue band across the top. I just finished looking online at "1950s Budweiser ads" and the website http://www.vintageadsandstuff.com/adsbeerbudweiser.html showed quite a few examples. The gold-split Buds were last advertised in 1956. The white-split Buds in 1957. The non-split Buds in August 1958. These are Life magazine ads ...

Looking at the original find picture, I notice that all the flats and bottles (can't really see the Ballys) are from the early to mid 1950s. So are the Old tap quarts the older IRTPs or perhaps an unlisted non-IRTP version? I know that rival Massachusetts brewers Croft and Dawson had non-IRTP quarts...

You may have noticed that ebay, with their infinite wisdom, has decided to make it more difficult to look at a closed listing. In the case of the link to the fake Stoney's conetop, they take you to a live auction for a Wooden Shoe conetop. Notice the line in blue that says: The listing you're lookin...

I don't quite remember the price of beer, I think a six-pack of Schlitz was about a $1.50.
I do remember that an ounce of good weed was $20.
