Re: Regal Beer
I went to that Canvention at the Roosevelt, go there often in fact, have that ash tray at my farm, and believe it to be common, but still cool. It doesn’t rust, it’s sturdy, easy to replace, and antique.

Re: Need a bottle expert
Many thanks for the leads. His bottles look like the ones on the site that Leon referenced. The raised lettering on a lot of them and I do remember him talking about the ‘pontils’ where they were ‘hand blown’ and pulled off of some sort of bottle making device. I stuck with the cans.

Need a bottle expert
My long-time business partner recently died and left his widow with a killer bottle collection. It is not necessarily beer bottles, but he collected hand-blown bottles that were pre-turn of the 19th century bottles. He obtained these underwater, under houses in New Orleans and in Florida and in dump...

Re: The Rusty Bunch - The Firemen of the Hobby
Sadly, the changes in the BCCA without meaningful membership input, and other things have kept me out for many years. I think the Rusty Bunch could easily run independent of the BCCA, and perhaps surpass it, but it's continued parroting of the BCCA company line has kept me out as well. Just my 2 cents.

Golden Age OD
I *think* this might be a Golden Age cone top I once had on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Golden-age-beer-can-1947-with-cap-PERFECT-CONDITION-/201192642976 But I am not sure. It is a withdrawn free can, and I remember having a heck of a time getting an OD cap for it. Sadly, I don't remember what it l...

Re: Rarity of Rheingold OD's?
I am still around but my knowledge is more rusty than the cans! There is a pretty serious group of guys in Italy who reenact WWII events and look for artifacts by dumping, in barns, etc. They come across a few cans. Phil is one and he joined this website. I have put them in touch with a few people o...

That's a continuation of the idea that Krueger's Special beer was 'near beer' and not real beer. There was a discussion about that a little while back.

Re: Jax Beer Sign
$1000 bucks should be easy. I bought a large 2-sided porcelain sign for $400. The big problem might be shipping. But there are Jax signs to be had in Texas. You might search allofcraigs.com. I know there was a guy near Baton Rouge on craigslist that had a Jax sign or 2 for sale. It might still be li...

I don't remember exactly the variations, but I had 2 different ones at one time. If I recall correctly, and probably don't, one was a large cap sealed panel and the other one small.

Regal Beer of Ohio?
Here is an interesting bottle on eBay. It's the gold "Prince Regal Salutes You" like the cone top but it's not American Brewery from Florida or Louisiana. It's by "Pilsener Brwy in Cleveland,Ohio." Anybody know anything about this? Did they make a cone top (maybe?) too? I was alw...

Re: Move Over Krueger Special !??!
The BCCA link also states the Krueger's Special test cans went out 14 months before the repeal of prohibition, also implying a near beer. If it was Richmond, the can saver may have been disrupted by the Navy's increased presence there during WWII. Perhaps somebody who served in the war? If so, it mi...

Re: Move Over Krueger Special !??!
I always thought 1985 on the photo too. Just didn't want to assume anything. But, to read the text on the BCCA site, it implies that the photo was from "The Brewer's News" but no date, but the can 'surfaced briefly' in 1985 - ostensibly with no photos. I thought it was a 1985 photo, but ap...

I agree. I've never heard anyone 'fess up to knowing anything about that photo. Don't you think there's a good chance the can in the 1985 photo is the one Dave Stark claimed to have held in hand? So we know that the photo was taken in 1985? How do we know that? Where was it published? Nobody will f...

Re: Move Over Krueger Special !??!
In my opinion, the best chance of finding one may be to run down the info on the one that was photographed and allegedly surfaced in 1985. That one seems legit. I was disappointed by the newer book that promised a photo, but even it made the 1985 photo seem more legit. Does nobody know anything abou...

That film had some of the most realistic beer can pieces that I have seen in a while. Much of it was filmed here in Louisiana, but I have no idea where or how they got cans, got the time frame right and all that. But I am glad to see this attention to beer cans!

Looks like a 60's vintage generic 'beer' from American Can. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-American-Can-serving-tray-made-from-Beer-Can-flat-unrolled-tin-/190777428510?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c6b388a1e This is for six or so uncut sheets. Never seen one rolled, but then again, I haven't see...

Re: Move Over Krueger Special !??!
Krueger's Special Beer was near-beer. Gottfried Krueger's "Special Beer" was sold for years during Prohibition. Ads from the 20s raved how "real" Krueger's Special Beer tasted. I found this interesting. In my mind, I collect "beer" cans, not "near beer." So I...

Never had good luck finding cans, but had nice and generous friends. Friend moved in from Minnesota and had alot of Minnesota cone tops to trade. OK, Matt, I'll take you up on the wager - I'll say $849.00 on this thing. Whoever's closest owes the other a good beer. Thinking a bit more about this... Although the can body itself may be prototypical, this thing is more of a hand painted commemorative relic than anything else. If it had nothing ...

Re: Move Over Krueger Special !??!
This website is interesting: http://keglined.pssht.com/main.html It shows another man as having the patent on beer cans as early as 1925. No mention of the eBay can. Also, it says that Krueger's 'Special' Beer was not beer at all - it contained near beer. First I have heard of that. So maybe Krueger...
