Re: And now.. for the rest of the story!
Same can as far as anyone knows. It has a distinctive date scratched into it. I can’t believe others weren’t saved as pencil holders or whatnot, but it’s cooler that there’s only one. If someone found a hundred of them, they’d lose 90% of their appeal instantly. “Oh, how exciting! You have the 77th ...

And now.. for the rest of the story!
The Krueger’s Special was always THE grail can of the hobby. Over the years, two different collectors showed me a grainy photo of one sitting on a table, turned slightly to the side. Did I know anything about this can? It clearly didn’t match the can shown in the OI book, but did match a print ad sh...

Re: Stolen cans
Right, it’s slander until their guilt is established in court. The Constitution is so annoying! That said, let’s all keep an eye open. Guys in the past have worked their crap in multiple states and Thaw is certainly an attractive target. Wouldn’t be surprised if guys started setting up Rings nearby ...

Re: Call for airbrushed cans to borrow!
Jim- that would be great if you could bring it to Thaw, assuming you're coming. If you don't have a similar grade all-original I'll ask Marc or put the word out for a comparison can. Keith says the chapter events are kind of booked up as it is, but worst case I can photograph them and get a sticky p...

Call for airbrushed cans to borrow!
Just saw the thread on Glenn's cleaning seminar at Spring Thaw and remembered I was asked to do one as well... on using black lights and ID'ing airbrushed cans. Would anyone bring/loan me airbrushed cans and/or the same cans in similar grade that have not been altered? Can be any flat or cone, any g...

Not in East Texas! I struck out about six times along the 190 corridor. A few places had bottles, that was it. Sorry!

Re: College Football, Beer Cans and NIL $$
Mo Clarett's cans would all leak out through the bullet holes. Eddie George's would all have some dust on the lid. Archie Griffin's would all slip through the carton trying to hold it. Chris Carter's would all open really loud, and then sit with just half the rim holding it on the edge of the table....

Re: Dave Lang cans
The dingle bay in the auction was recapped in Dave’s honorary rustlings, likely 2nd best known and I think it’s the book can. Came from a hillside on the driveway to a ski resort in no if I remember Dave’s story. The OTHER dingles Dave had came from Charlie bacon’s Mid 20th century dump in mass. Wha...

Re: Dave Lang cans
Got one! Glad to see many of these getting respect, but still some real bargains to be had. For all the whining I’ve heard about a lack of brocket quarts over the years, someone got a deal! I got a Keith Norton by way of Dave lang can for the shelf, one I’ve always wanted, at a price that made me sm...

I don’t have a good count on these. Benbow rubbed out a nice-ish one that Morean sold for him. There are the book cans, gotta be more out there. Not many though!

Beer can pilgrimages
Work travel finds me in central Louisiana this month, so naturally I found a way to pass through “tiny Church Point, Louisiana,” in the immortal words of Lee Cady. IMG_4330.jpeg Not that tiny, 4000+ people, but just one grocery store, a somewhat renovated Piggly Wiggly. I suppose this is where it al...

Re: Dave Lang cans
Dan vehemently tries to get his consignors to do regular auctions with no reserves, hidden or otherwise. It just turns off too many people, and you never get the run up when bidders are competing. And it telegraphs to the bidder that the seller thinks they know more than the buyer, kinda pushy.

Re: Paint over Qwarts and speciifically Eblings beer
Hmm. I had two dumper eblings but both brake fluid. Can’t say I’ve ever seen one out there in nature, not enough data points to guess. Yet, there are some cans largely known from only a single find that would otherwise be practically unknown. Like tayter’s dawson quarts. Perhaps that one big eblings...

Re: What are these called?
The older versions with gold or yellow trims instead of blue are worth quite a bit more. I’ve seen a number of full sheets of these (like 30-40 cans per full sheet) in antique shops out here for about $100 apiece. They’re still cool to frame, you get a better view of the art than you do with a can.

Re: Totally Bummed Today
The crowntainers are not as rare as the other cans mentioned. Md guys have them, I used to have both in decent shape and never threw $$$ around. It’s the out of town folk, because none of these have surfaced in the last couple years of crazy internet bidding and they don’t have tough crowntainer xyz...

Re: Totally Bummed Today
Nope, no idea who. Lots of grifters abound inside and outside of the chapter. Some folk seem to have a pitch that encourages sellers to take an offer without asking anyone to even match it. I wish I knew the magic words, seems like it would cost the seller nothing to ask for a few $$$ more, but they...

Re: Totally Bummed Today
Another tactic to try to level the playing field is to message the seller and say, hey, you’re gonna get offers so I’d like the chance to beat any of them before you end the auction. Let them know you won’t make your top bid until late. That cuts out most people trying to game the system.

Dave Lang cans
The first one I noticed just went off in Morean auctions on Sunday, a 007 that Dave bought and drank in his New Jersey days. He didn’t collect set cans so he only bought the one. The latest auction has many more of his gems, including the unique Narragansett pale oi and the nicest pair of golden rod...

Moot point- I’m not headed back to fort Leavenworth so I wouldn’t be able to pick up that can anyway. Glad to pass along the info in case it is anything special. Asked only because I’d never seen one.
Thnx for the info. Sooner or later I’ll score on this Trip!

Re: Perone Quart!
Of all the unique quarts, I think this is the only one that ever received the Lew Cady Effect. Condition is very nice, albeit dedented on the back, and storied as many know the longtime owner as a top-shelf person. 50k but I’m not a betting man. I hope the new owner is half as gracious in letting ot...

Not sure this one isn't different, although I didn't look closely at last year's. Since they closed the brewery here in the last year, and this new one has a Dublin mandatory, it may be different. Only you know for sure!

Oh great, now I have crabs, too. Funny thing is, Guinness doesn't actually stand with Maryland. They closed their brewery here last year, and these cans were filled in Dublin. So why does this can exist?

I can still see the scene of a long skinny dump running along the ditch on a country road; wish I could remeber the 4 unique unknown quarts I dug in it. Good times. Oddly I had a breweriana dream at some point back, a chalk backbar Ruppert piece that doesn't exist. It had a can mounted in it, also t...

Re: Why waste money painting over your own label??
Yeah, the feds required it back when it was fashionable to make your company look big and nationwide. Then when it became fashionable to advertise your Rocky Mountain water or the like, big beer lobbied to remove the requirement. Then when contract brewers (Sam Adams) started making trouble, big bee...
