Re: Good Guys Live Bidding open at 11:00 am EST

Yeah, zero for zero. My can hit my max as of the morning of the auction. It only went up another $100 or so from there, but I was toast. Gotta find a consolation price somewhere... I sold a few decent shelf cans for this opportunity!

Re: Design question: brand name below midline

Thanks MI- I stand corrected. That doesn't look bad after all. Would make a great variation. The one that always got me was the brand names that are cursive ALWAYS go up and to the right, like a right hander would scrawl (unless it's arched). Can't think of a single label that goes down and to the r...

Re: Design question: brand name below midline

Fun. I guess it's more like a labeled artwork (words at bottom) than a newspaper headline (words at top). That Tahoe would look real odd if it were flipped. Any photoshop pro's out there this afternoon?

Re: Fundraiser for The Big One!

Sorry KB- not a big secret! It's the next Dan Baker auction nicknamed "The Big One". One can I've always wanted is in there so I'm doubling down to try to land it without spending any of my last paycheck (for a while, until daycare reopens) on it.

Fundraiser for The Big One!

Here's some shelf cans as I narrow my collecting focus, hoping to sell enough to take a shot at one of my most-wanted cans coming up in the big auction next weekend... Older cans listed first, a couple recent craft cans listed at the bottom. $5 for shipping for any number of cans. Check or paypal 'f...

Re: Finally, a use for this! Thanks, Matt!

Thnx for that blast from the past! Beverlx reminded me a while back of just how snarky I used to be, and 2014 wasn't all THAT far back. Sorry now I didn't spring for the ones with the little N95 air valve on them. Those I use for work, and sadly had just 2 on hand before excrement hit the fan. And J...

Auction Fundraiser: cones & flats!

Trying to raise funds for a run at a long-desired can... these I've picked up the in last couple years before my new collection came into focus... some bought from guys here so prices are all what I paid (as best as I can remember). $5 shipping, paypal 'friend' or check works, will add cans after a ...

Need some 80's soda caps

Thanks guys! Looks like I have enough caps on the way with several contributors! And, so this post is about beer cans: I'll be posting a half dozen or so shelf cans in the Advertise section, hoping to sell them and raise enough to make a run at one can in the good guys' (sp) auction. Anyone have any...

Re: Beer for Spring Thaw Hospitality Room

What a job, thanks Dave! If you pick up a sixtel of Sierra Nevada Hop Hunter or Torpedo, or Victory Dirt Wolf or Hop Devil, I'd kick in $25 to more than cover the two beers I could down before the ravenous hordes inhale the rest of the keg. If you get anything donated from Heavy Seas or something do...

I hit can shows around Australia while on a road trip there in '95, that was cool. And a few out West a couple years before that- really built up my cheap CA dumpers at the old Huntington Beach show. But the best story I've heard was from Dale Rogalski. I had the table backing up to his at Kansas Ci...

35 states and counting... no politician will let that cash cow from the barn. This is just the latest way eBay was been trying to crush private/small sellers while giving massive freebies to large businesses. I'm sure there will be more to come.

Re: Color variations vs. color tolerance

And of top of that, fade issues. High grade cans that spend years in lit can rooms take a beating, and begin to look different. And paint darkening- many Crown cans with white paint begin to look cream and yellow after many years. Then you rub out a Wagner's and you see the original white, it's eye-...

Re: "Ballantine's Brews" - How come I didn't know about this?

There wouldn't be multiple product lists in Bock; the multiple product lists came out over several months and the bock was canned for maybe a week in total, once a year. The odds they'd make two different bock labels in the same week, during a one-week run, are astronomically low. Many variations ca...

Just started looking for one of those in woodgrain, doesn't matter which, and kind of scratching my head. It's $35 book, runs over $100 on the dealer sites only when screaming mint, but not around otherwise at the moment when I want to buy one. Just wondering how the powers that be price a can like ...

I need a fix... (or, All In for the Winter Shows)

I keep setting the price on cans I want at auction (always a #2 bidder, never a winner) getting snaked on stuff or forgetting to bid, flat out missing killer BIN's, and being priced out of the nicest stuff I want in the dealer auctions. I'm getting nothing. I have bare shelves here, people. So I'm a...

Re: Old German Cone Top

Re labels and glue, that makes sense. Returnables cost enough that the brewer had to get them back, and then to be able to clean them and put a different brew in it next time. One-way cans had a different problem- like the Costco chicken no brewer wanted them relabeled by someone else at their expen...

Re: Old German Cone Top

Any tin cans that go in or out of a cooler at distribution or retail, or expect to be once they're purchased, would pick up condensation that would wreck the paper label and either make it unrecognizable or at least ugly. Especially with alcohol, the Feds would be concerned about one brewery relabel...

Glad to see the Hamm's pop up in the last pic. Nice pics, thanks for posting from that forgotten period. Those guys...

Re: Old German Cone Top

Freak show. No one even talks about that can in MD. I have no idea. It's kind of creepy how the label is mitered and glued so neatly onto a can that saw enough moisture to heavily indoor-rust like that. Reminds me a bit of Rustmonger's Ebling's paper label cone- a mimeograph of a real label glued on...

Yeah they went to the large-font Cap-Sealed logo in 1944 in the middle of the Olive Drab era. Gotta be pre-March 1942.

Yeah, boy, pints. I've dug a lot in Maine over the years which is totally pint and quart country. Some fun labels, like the Krueger gumdrop zips, one and only one Dawson Ale zip, wide range of Kruegers, Rupperts... finally got all the Ruppert pints maybe 10-12 years ago, fun stuff. You'll find a few...

Keith, I think you found the right person... I guess it's kind of amazing that any of the 70's and 80's beer can scholarship still stands up at all. Re: Help pick a winner. Choose the quart to be featured in the BCCA 85 years of canned beer

Rand got me thinking... might change my non-vote to the Manhattan quart. The back features a mock growler handle, and the little spiel talks about how this is the Modern version of an old-time growler... on what's now an old-time container in its own right. I thought Rand like solipsism... Total Dec...
