The 1981 Anoka Halloween can (from Schell's) is uncommon in crimped steel. Took me years to finally snag one!

Always cool to see the Anoka Schell's cans. We lived just a few miles from the Anoka Liquor Store at that time and Mom would always make sure to stop and bring me the new can every year.

My most memorable was on a family trip down south - an Iron City Pittsburgh Steelers can found behind Billy Carter's gas station in Plains, Georgia!

All about demand. The 007 cans have always fetched high prices, even when I was a kid back in the 1970s.

I have both of those in my collection. They were fairly easy to find and IIRC, I paid a buck apiece for them a few years back.

I attend quite a few card shows every year and yes, there are usually a lot of kids in attendance.

The Wisconsin collector was named Fred Jung. I found an article about his beer bottle collection, but couldn't find any mention of cans. There is a story (and photo) in the Racine Journal Times, dated April 5, 1946.

Speaking of BCCA numbers, I had one when I first joined in 1978, then a different one when I re-joined around 1981, so there are two numbers that are dormant.

Great thread! My Dad was born and raised in Fountain City, WI and Mom was born and raised in Winona, MN. BTW, Dad and his friends used to use Fountain Brew cans for target practice!

The price of any collectible is based on supply and demand. I'm pretty certain the number of beer can collectors is just a small fraction of those who collect sports cards, comic books, coins, etc. That said, I'm not surprised when an ultra-rare can in great condition commands a high price. It's tho...

I bought that Edelweiss can myself (near mint) for $15 about 6 months ago!

Both the regular and light versions are fairly common. Both should be had for about a buck apiece.

What's up with the Iron City "Pour It On Steelers" 1973 air-filled tab top? 11 bids... $160. I just counted at least 7 on eBay from $1.04 to $14. Bottom opened, some are in small lots, etc. Nothing special about that can that I can see. It already has 11 bids. Maybe just an old fashioned ...

Bock cans only appeared for a limited time in the spring. Thus less supply. Most also have cool graphics, which adds to the demand.

There's too many collectors that look down their noses at them. Come to think of it, it was that way too back in the day. I remember a couple of established collectors coming to see my childhood collection (over 1,000 cans) and basically scoffing at everything but the handful of cones and flats that...

FWIW, I bought all 3 sets in Minnesota at the time they were first released and they were all flat top cans. I never saw a sta-tab version until years later at a show.

Not a problem here. I collect any and all beverage cans from all eras!

I was able to put together a near-complete collection of Canvention cans in just a couple of years. Still missing #1. If anybody has a spare they want to sell, let me know!

Price guides (in ALL hobbies) are just that, guides. The true value of any collectible will always be what someone is willing to pay for it. I know my limitations and it's one big reason why I collect the current cans as well as the affordable obsolete items. I can always add to my collection withou...
