Re: Aside Wax, what have you put on your cans to preserve?

Jubilee kitchen wax. Made for painted appliances. Have used it on trays and cans for well over 35 years with no ill affects.

Re: A pic from Digger - this is BIG !! Michel Crowntainers!

The Fitzgerald Bock (no fade and +1) I found at the Knickerbocker Chapter show my father and I hosted in Blue Point back in the mid 80's was a find in a life time at 10 bucks and I passed it on down the line some years later when we decided to only collect NYC items. Sold for 650 after the Niagara c...

We dug some Peter Doelgers in that area back in the 80's as well. Even a couple Coopers quarts. Early Rheingolds as well plus unlimited Tudors.

Re: Three odd balls cans show up at Swaparama

Someone went through a lot of trouble to make that piels if a phony. If the brewery is Brooklyn something is way off in the time frame of when that label was last used. Been looking for over 30 years for that in a straight side.

Re: Beer Can Cups and Mugs

I think I see gear marks on the top and that handle looks very crude to be a factory made mug. The factory made boat loads of real can mugs. Schaefer gave out more then imaginable and they seemed to do it in sets of 4's. Ballantine was big on them on too. I have collected mug cans for many years. Od...

Re: Some crusty 30s cans from Massachusetts

Gray sand with moisture nearby never good for cans. Reminds me of the hotel dump I found in Blue Point back in the early 80's. Total killer first run NYC 30's cans all turned to nothing. Long opener Wehle no slouch.

Re: Maine in May

Keep looking, I need a Rheingold flat qt. Only dug them once (when starting out) and did not save any unreadable mystery cans back then. Matter of fact didn't even know they made the beer in a flat qt till years later and could never find my way back to that dump to pick them up. Up around Lake Geor...

Re: Morean Auction

Looking at the prices I can say the hobby has now gotten well out of reach for most. (Current collectors are much different) The group of folks buying these cans keeps getting smaller and smaller too which increases the deep pocket bidding war. If I hear one more time "How can we get younger people ...

Re: 11 hours at the abandoned Highway

Alaska is a long ways away from the canning lines in NYC. If only the Ruppert could tell the tale of it's journey to the side of an abandoned road in Alaska. I am thinking in late 1949-50 not many folks were driving from NYC and if they were, unless they brought a couple cases, were buying local stu...

Re: Wood crate preservation

I have close to 40 NYC wood crates and whiskey boxes. A mix of pre and post pro. All I do is dust them. They are what they are. Old wooden crates. They will last a long time as are. The one crate dated 1782 from a shipping outfit in England to Islip, NY looks just fine with just doing that.

Anyone ever wonder what guys in the 1850's collected and what happened to their collections ? My grandfather and his father each collected coins which put things back into the 1880's. I still have some. They also collected tobacco cards.

Re: Old labels/brands making a comeback?

Lots of people are collecting craft cans right now because of the vast number of labels and the fact they are cheap. CHEAP being a major attraction just like it was back in the late 60's and 70's. Will some cross over to flats and breweriana? A few might but I doubt you'll ever see anything like the...

Re: State of the beer industry

People have been saying "IF" now for 10 years about getting new younger collectors. "IF" isn't happening. I gave up getting my nephews involved. They do not look at collecting today. The interest? Vid games. Every guy I talk to at work their kids interest is vid games. 35 years old? VID GAMES. The o...

Re: State of the beer industry

One just needs to look at the cost of the hobby now from what it was in the glory days of the late 70's-early 80's. Not many teens can afford it. Add the distractions of video games. It is not just beer cans but every hobby that was popular in the 70's-80's is going by the wayside.
