Re: Aside Wax, what have you put on your cans to preserve?
AS an RBer, many of my cans have patches of heavy rust and rust nodules. I use long acid soaks followed with wire brushes and abrasives on lids and seams. On the body, light tooth brushing. On lids and seams and the worst rust patches on the body, I prefer removing as much as I can, even if it leads...

Mine has the keglined mark without the oval, like yours on the left. And Mine does look orange-ish.

Re: Aside Wax, what have you put on your cans to preserve?
I wax nice cans, but use light oil on grade 2-5 cans. The oil penetrates and I believe helps preserve the can from rust. Same effect as WD-40, except that uses a solvent to deliver the needed oil. Keepers of iron relics use paraffin wax to preserve and make them look better after electrolysis.

Canhawk: you missed all the Goebel 12 & 16s that look identical and that no Michigan specialist can confirm. Yes, there has to be more confusing entries in the book than what the list shows. I see two Goebel extra dry side by side that the book says both have "nationally famous" in th...

Re: Kingsbury Bock
The solution would be to take this list compiled by Eric of pairs of 12 oz flats that are hard to distinguish in USBC vol 1 and find the pairs of cans at shows, shoot photos and note can company and design differences, and publish them in a pamphlet or web posting. Somewhere is a collector who knows...

Re: Kingsbury Bock
Something so easily avoided with a simple descriptor in the book, yellow/orange and/or keglined oval. Then we get into one is yellow and one is orange, yet no one says which is which in the book because we don't know. I have the one like Rock Bob's, with straight seam ( another convenient descriptio...

Re: METALLIC GRAND PRIZE?
Here's the rule of thumb....if you are ever holding a can in your hand, and you are questioning whether it's metallic or not....it's not. By and large, metallic cans are obvious and there's rarely a question about it. I agree. I use the reflection standard of the shiny tin lid. If it's not that shi...

Re: How many US states have you visited?
Never been farther east of the Midwest than Indiana and when I get the time I go west. Hitting all 50 states would make me visit states for which I have no interest. I want some day to visit the extreme northeast and maritime Canadian provinces like Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Labrador, New Brunswick.

Re: METALLIC GRAND PRIZE?
Yes, what Eric said. A comparison would make it much easier to decide. I agree. I think this GP is not the metallic version. When I finally dumped the metallic Drewrys OI, I stopped fondling my enamel version wondering if it was metallic. Think chrome-plated or a finish like a mirror, like a tin li...

Re: To Re-lid or not?
For me, a lid missing because it was removed by the consumer isn't bothersome, it's part of its pre-collector history. If I knew a can had a lid removed by the collector (does this ever happen?) I would not want it.

Re: To Schmidt Or Not To Schmidt, That is the Question ?
If you buy enough can collections, you will assemble the easiest 21-can Schmidt scenes tabs without even trying. I have segregated my Schmidt scenes and I manage the keepers and goners separately from the rest of my collection. So yes, I choose to Schmidt rather than not to Schmidt because of my lif...

Re: To Re-lid or not?
I also like lidless cans with evidence someone removed the entire lid with an opener, leaving the openers' gear marks tucked up under the rim. The can may have been reused for a workbench container or temporary kitchen container or who knows what, but it prolonged the life of the can and kept it out...
