THat's a clean rub out for a killer quart! Between this and Bjorn's Goebel/Drewrys, there have been some astounding rub outs recently.

Re: Ok...Who Scored the Krueger Bock OI?

I'm a bottom feeder when it comes to cans. It is a rich world with much to offer, especially when you find the cans unattached to another collector ... i.e., dumping! I have never spent more than $50 on a can and most are under $25.

Has hallmarks of a lake can, including the clean but discolored can body with some staining spots, and corrosion and/or mineralized caking on the rim.

The 1965 story with "Steel in containers for beverages soon" is clearly a case of the headline writer missing a point or two of the story, and only 30 years off the mark for beer in steel containers!

Re: PINK MILLER?

The inside lips of the both lids show teeth marks, indicating the lids may have been added to this can. Having dug hundreds of lake cans, I have never seen this type of color change in a Miller and I cannot think of any lake can that changed color to pink, except faded red colors, and those ares usu...

Re: dumping in Illinois

The current pool of dumpers in Illinois has dwindled because of poor can preservation due to soil conditions. However, there are some cans and dumps out there. In addition to DaveNH's list, I will add to stay within wooded corridors along streams and rivers and look for junk in the woods off a road....

Re: Rolled Cans

I separate cans into two groups: those altered by the maker/drinker/user, and those altered by collectors. I don't seek rolled cans or flat sheets, only original cans. Original flats that have tops removed by the original user, with gear marks along the rim, don't bother me. I like early tabs where ...

If you guys had seen Steve's reflector come out of the mud, you would hardly believe the 'after' picture he posted here! It was a lump of mud and caked mineral, with one or two of the reflector marbles showing. Nice clean up job. The lake was built in 1950 but the park was established in 1937. DSCF0...

No show stoppers yet but still digging and finding different variations and brands. Also found another cool reel and a tackle box. Steve Rusty Jonesin joined me for a day but the excessive heat index 105 curtailed our effort and drove us out after about 5 hours. Can hole and gear DSCF0560_edited.jpg

Back to the lake mud for cans

Found another drained lake in Iowa, Lake Geode. One drawback -- it was built in 1951. But that still gives a decent time span for flat tops and early tabs. And it has the thick black can-preserving muck I so adore. No cone tops yet. Cans were metal detected about 10 inches deep. Pics below are from ...
