Re: What Is The Rarest Can In Your Collection?

Forgot this less attractive can. I believe it is more rare than the red lion cone. This is the only one I have seen in person and only know of 2-3 others. Picked it up in Portland in 2016.

Re: Newest can for the collection....

I had this can at one time and sold it recently. Mine came from a find of cans in Greece in the 70"s that were stored in saw dust. Apparently a family in Greece put up soldiers in WWII in t heir house and these were left behind. The seller indicated that he had 2 and wanted to keep one. I was t...

Probably to cook sausages or "beer brats" in. Not so sure about drinking it. Just because you can do something does not make it a good idea. Think fried pickles (salt bombs), deep fried ice cream, 3000 calorie mac-n-cheese, etc. We Americans go over the top way to easily when it comes to t...

Re: Thoughts on the Gene Judd collection being sold?

Interesting times indeed. I am slowly culling the herd while there is still demand. Not losing interest in the hobby but being pragmatic. I think we need to face the fact that younger generations have not embraced the collection hobby as in generations past. I collect coins and a dealer is warning c...

Re: Morean Auction

I was bidding on the Brown Derby Quart but stopped at the end. The red lion could have done better if not faded. The red top O/I did really well given the fade. I have both in my collection. Most prices seemed high for what I thought were fairly common cans (meaning I have seen them for sale multipl...

A number of brewery's brewed an export version so that if the beer was not well received it did not damage the flagship brand. Pabst comes to mind for their early canned beers.

Interesting to notice on the cardboard advertising piece how times have changed. Smoking was once an accepted practice every where. My mom used to smoke and I remember smelling it on my clothes growing up and if you entered a smokers home the smell would hit you in the face.

Re: Signs and Crates!

Crates go from $15-100 dollars depending on the brewery (at least that is the ranges I have observed-older bringing more). I think no more than $35 would be fair on the crates. The crates serve multiple purposes, they are very utilitarian for carrying things. I use them for cookouts and taking stuff...

I see the Canadian Ace more often than any other. There is one in an antique store here in San Jose and I think he wants $65 for it. I have no idea on the value of them other than what the can is worth.

Re: My Best Find of 2018, What your ???

Here are my best 2018 acquisitions. Both came from Dan Morean's auctions. The baldy is a "Rand me Down" and the tip tray is from a long defunct brewery from my hometown of Middletown Ohio.

Sorry for the sideways view.

Looking forward to a prosperous 2019.

Just arrived today. Here is the Baldy 473 and related advertising (which is almost as cool as the can).

Rand, where did you find the advertising? I am guessing from 1935 ish or so.
