Re: Lion Beer Bock

I don't think George is particularly a can guy, his room at BlueGray was generally craft coasters and tap handles and the like so I'm assuming that's the main thing he collects. If I were to speculate, I'd guess any can could well be left in a box for years when it's not your thing. You'd have to h...

That would be George's spouse - Dale.

This is a really crummy story. Strange move to 're-surface' the can now, or ever, given the very gray methods used to acquire the can.

This came out of an estate sale. As for the story, it is fun when unraveled from the Sunday at 9AM open that I pulled in at 10:20 Saturday night to place my name on the list to enter. I ended up establishing the list, so I was #1. A nine hour stakeout to protect my place on the list. Outstanding jo...

Re: Continental Can Company Salesman Sample Beer Tray to go along with my Continental Salesman Sampler Quart

I sold one of those back in 2019, didn't seem to get much love, but that quart cone sample can is a stunner.

I would guess the tray is much newer than the can, maybe mid 1950's to 60's era.

The calendar TOC is really cool as well....

Found an off grade quart in the 'wild' at an estate sale. Of course the sides are better than the face, but it was virtually no money - so I am not being picky! I collect Hartford stuff and always wanted one of these.

Re: Fall Fest Show Auburn MA, 18-20 November

There were 6 packs or UC Bock and Ruppert Bock zips listed on e-bay a few months back, I think they were asking one K a piece BIN which seemed steep. Pictures were not great if I recall right. Sales ended with no action, I think so maybe they were flipped to this guy.

Weird sidebar - that is all....

Re: What Would You Do?

A bit of an aside but relevant here ... as a rule, Amazon boxes are NOT as strong as most other corrugated cardboard boxes you see. Most boxes have some numbers on the side indicating their strength. A fairly good, solid box will have a "bursting strength" of 200 (not sure the units or ho...

@Menke - that is a great suggestion. Comparing this can to the WF Ruppert flats might help tie those cans closer to this Red Fox flat. Anyone have one that could share a picture of the seam, lid and Continental logo?

Columbus_Dispatch_1948-04-18_64.png Columbus (OH) Dispatch April 18, 1948 Maybe there were some unfilled cans mixed in with that equipment Ruppert bought. That is a great clipping and reveals that Largay was in some kind of production into 1948, not 1947 as widely accepted and as noted in American ...

Re: Fall Fest Show Auburn MA, 18-20 November

I just finished a quick search of Continental 8 cans that I had and came up with a Ruppert IRTP which has the seam numbers S3 and 8N engraved. The Ruppert design straddles 1949 (IRTP) and 1950 (not IRTP). This puts the Red Fox in the same era as the Ruppert, however Largay closed in 1947. Is it pos...

Re: What Would You Do?

I would be pretty annoyed to get that response after bringing the damage to the sellers attention. Not much else to do, it does not sound like the seller is going to give you an adjustment based on terrible packaging, and I suspect they will tell you to pound sand if you want to return the signs. Un...

Re: Aluminum Can Values Part 1

@kruegerbock Some of the Aluminum cans that the brewery in Hammonton, NJ put out during their dying days are extremely difficult to come by. I remember the Latina can selling for something like $75 on eBay once, and I don't even think that one is one of the tougher cans - I have one or two extra if...

Re: Schmidt’s Porter IRTP steinie bottles

Those are nice, but I am sure even with the porter label they are only $5 - $10 bottles, but you might only sell half the case.

At $75 this would probably be an OK buy, instead the dealer will cart from show to show, adding more and more wear and tear to the labels until there is nothing left.....

Been a shortage of 'after' photos here so I did not want to add to that - The Florida laundry sprinkler is a Red Top Ale - IRTP version. Still some stubborn green paint on the seam and back side but I did not want to risk the red on the front fading. Should I wait a few days before soaking in fresh ...
