Re: Does a composite lists of cans with Cans Inc. canning codes exist??

I am in the process of going thru all of the volume 1 cans and updating the comment field. In parallel to that, I am also updating my personal database with canning companies. So far, I am only about 25% of the way done. I should be done by Spring Thaw. Contact me then and I will do a search. So far...

Re: Cans Known As Zip Tabs Only

This is on my todo list. I plan to add a note on the flat tops that are also tab tops and vice versa. I had not thought about separating the tabs into zips and ring tops, but good idea. Unfortunately this is not high on the todo list and do not think it will happen this winter. Regardless, this will...

We have captured everything we can lay our hands on for Volume 2. As of Canvention, we are going after any of these variations. It will take us a couple of months to get going. Also, keep you eyes open for the photo booth coming to a show near you. We can only add these variations if we can image th...

Keith, Koehler also brewed beer in one place (Erie, PA) and canned beer in either Westfield, NY (30 miles from Erie) or Buffalo, NY (100 miles away) according to the blue cone top side panel. I have often wondered why. I believe they also had a canning operation in Erie. I suspect it has something t...

Thanx again for those.

Re: Was 4/24/22 the Peak for Can Prices?

I am guessing that there are 2 bidders willing to go to the highest prices. After 1 of them gets the given can, there is no one to bid up the other bidder next time one comes to auction. That means that the market is thin at the very top. Even at the lower prices, I am not sure the market is deep th...

Re: Charlie Bacon's Quarts

I picked up a dozen new cans. The pricing was reasonable, although there was some irrational bidding at the end. Charlie kept a listing of cans with minor differences - mostly canning company codes. It was not possible to tell which of the minor differences were which. That may have limited some of ...

I was at a restaurant in extreme western New York that has a Beerador. The bartender told me that the owner has had several offers, but does not want to sell. He did say that keeping it running was difficult. Also, someone told me that they were made in Buffalo.

Re: The little ball in a can of Guinness

First, Guinness is a low alcohol beer, I think about 4.5%.

Second, the widget releases nitrogen into the beer. It is similar to carbonation (CO2), but allows for smaller bubbles that makes the beer taste smoother. I believe that the nitrogen also reduces your hangover.

Thanx for the plug Keith. We are also continuing to add cans as we find more. This week, I am picking up about 100 cans that I left with Jim to image. I will also drop off another 100 cans for him to image with many of them found as I relooked at my trade stock. The most interesting one is a Schlitz...

I have told my kids that I don’t care what you do. When I am gone, I no longer get a vote. That said, I will suggest that they contact other collectors for help. Frankly, I am still adding cans and never anticipate selling the cans - it would be like selling my kids.

Thankfully, I seem to be on the mend. Still fatigued, but somewhat functional.

Hope all recover well.

For the people that are paying the high prices, they are unaffected by the recession. I might argue that the high prices are a result of the rich getting richer and the rest of us are treading water.

I agree, this is not a material difference. Typically, I look to other items such as the seam or the canning company codes. Neither look to be different in this case, so I would not consider it different. However, I might throw it in my pile of minor differences just in case you change your mind.

As part of the team that is adding these late cans to USBC II, I am seeing a lot of these. Unfortunately, The book did not include many of the 80’s tab tops. Every show I go to, I find another half dozen we need to document. Many of the have a multi-crimp top. Many are from the larger breweries. Tha...
