Re: Dawson’s (in red letters!) Quart dumper NIB

We photographed the red letter Dawson at the Cleveland Canvention for the digital book. The gentleman that had it said that there were only a few known and that the one photographed was second best. I had never seen one before that.

Great find. A number of nice additional cans as well.

Thanx.

Re: Odd Painted Seam

It looks like a traditional design. I am guessing that the canning company changed the seam from the standard wide seam to the glued seam and the redesign of the label had not been completed so they just filled the area with white paint. Alternatively, the can may have been painted all white as the ...

Re: What database do you use for your collection?

Rick says that I am the largest user of Canventory. I have put all the cans from USBC I and II on it with pictures. Now I can easily see what I have and what I need. He had to change my software to allow for ~20,000 items. I love the software but have the following comments: - as Rick has allowed th...

Re: What's With all the tough tabs

While rare flats and cones are largely tied up in collections and are fully valued when they come to market, tabs may be perceived as more attainable. As there are sooooo many tabs, trying to get the rarest 100 may be doable when the same in flats and cones may not. Also, it is a lot cheaper to get ...

Re: Any statistics experts out there?

As it has been 40 years since my last stats class, I cannot easily help you. However, my experience in the real world has taught me that samples are seldom random. For instance, it is clear that not all cans were created in the same quantity. That would mean that you may have essentially all of the ...

There are no plans to list lid variations in either volume of USBC. We have included a comments section where I have suggested we include notes about lid variations and canning codes. So far, that seems to be beyond scope.

Re: Unknown? Unlisted? or just a Schlitz...

There are quite a number of Schlitz Beer and ML that are not in volume II. Several 16 oz. cans have been added, but there are more to be added as well. I think there was brand fatigue when they put together the original book. Given the list of the last 50 or so unphotographed 16 oz. cans are made up...

Re: 14, 15 and 16oz cans needed for USBC II Supplement

While the 14-15-16 oz. cans are almost complete, the 10-11-12 cans are barely started with less than 15% complete. Once we get over 90%, we will provide a list of the needed cans. Flat tops are over 80% and most of those remaining are truly rare. Also, if any of you have cans not captured in the sup...

Ok, let’s see what happens to a can. I do not think that it will hurt the paint.

Jim Wolf will be publishing the list of 14-15-16 oz. tab tops not in the supplement later this week. He added a number of photographs at the show this weekend. With those additions, we are down to 50-60 unphotographed cans. Most of the missing cans are uncommon variations of common brands such as Sc...

Great show. From my work with Jim Wolf on the digital USBC tab top book, we are down to about 100 14-15-16 ounce cans that we have not been able to rephotograph with 5 images. Almost all of these are uncommon variations of common brands such as Budweiser, Schlitz, Falstaff, Old Milwaukee, Hamms, etc...

Note on the one day membership - that gets you in the door on Saturday and allows you to buy, not sell cans. It is required because of some funky local regulations.

Re: Extruded steel Black Label same collection not in book

This is another example of cans that were produced just before the book was published. Our experience going through the 16 oz. cans was that there are a lot more of the late Black Labels than were included in the book. Given the lid on the can you are showing, was this a test can? Regardless, please...

Jim Wolf is in charge of the digital composite supplement. Best if you can bring them to Omaha to get photographed unless you will be on the east coast.

He is 86% done with the 14-15-16% cans. Are the same variations there? These are subtle enough that we likely missed them.

Thanx.

If you look thru USBC I, you will find some cases where cans are listed separately if they have a “BOCK BEER” on the lid. With the digital supplement, I think it was determined that we would not include any of these cans. One of the reasons is the relidding of cans as noted above. As for how I handl...
