Re: Red/white Koehler pull tab can.

Art and I have disagreed on this before. He says they were filled, but I believe them to be test cans. Back in the day, my father, who new the management team at the brewery, got 2+ cases of air-filled cans from them. He said they made this to see if they liked the color for use on what eventually b...

Re: Question for BCCA Pull Tab Book Committee?

As not all cans still have the zip intact, we are using the definition of what a zip top is based on the text on the lid. If it says “LIFT TAB”, it is a zip. If it says lift ring it is a tab or ring top. Note that I like to use ring top to avoid confusion as I think of both zip and ring tops as tab ...

Re: Lucky 16oz with Green Lettering!

Jim wolf and I have had this discussion several times. While I have a can with green on one side and gold on the other (implying this is a result of a post production oxidation or cleaning), I have seen so many (at least 10) with consistent coloring that I now believe this was either intentional or ...

Re: Another Pabst Can I don't see

You are touching on one of my favorite subjects. As part of the effort to put USBC on line, we are re-photographing all the cans. For volume 2, 16 ounce cans, we are down to under 50 that still need to be re-imaged. All of those are uncommon variations of common brands. That includes Pabst, Schlitz ...

Re: 80's and 90's aluminum

As we continue to add cans to the USBC II Supplement, we are finding a lot of early 80s cans that were missed. Our cutoff for the supplement is ring-tops, no sta-tabs(unless they were already in the book). To find these, I have been looking in the cheap cans boxes with a lot of success. I am also th...

Re: State of the beer industry

I disagree. There are something like 80 million 20 and 30 something people in the US. If we get four collectors out of every 100,000 people, that is 3,200 collectors - more than the present BCCA membership. And that is just from the 20 and 30 somethings. As those few get older, settle down, build be...

Re: Free Can Thread

At Blue/Gray last week, there were a couple of piles of free or 25 cent cans. I went through them and found a couple dozen cans that will be added to the USBC II Supplement. I also found a bunch more for my collection. Most of those were the uncommon variations of common cans. As many of you who pur...

Re: Question For Southern Guys

I found these and a couple more at the Omaha Canvention. We have added them to the supplement. There are a couple more as well. As the Supplement is trying to get all of the cans that are not aluminum or have ring tops, it looks like these were some of the last ring tops. For some reason, both Dixie...

Re: Ya I know, another unlisted can ?

Have not seen that version before. For the Supplement, we have made the determination that we do not add a can if the only difference is a canning company logo or MPC. The same thing goes for lid and seam variations. To do so would make the already gargantuan effort suicidal. Jim Wolf has done a goo...

Yes, this is always difficult to notice unless you have the 2 cans side-by-side. It is even harder to see the differences in images. Jim has started using the convention that there is metallic (mirror reflecting), dull (brushed metallic) and enamel (opaque). Also, with the National Brewing Company (...

As for what the Mummer’s Parade is, I would google it. My understanding is that it happens on New Years Day and the “acts” are primarily a bunch of people garishly dressed. I think there are groups that have been doung this for years. I lived near Philly for 15 years, but never went.

A couple of additional notes: - Most of the flats, cones and quarts are updated. There are quite a few new cans added. We photographed the red letter Dawson at the Cleveland Canvention for the digital book. The gentleman that had it said that there were only a few known and that the one photographed was second best. I had never seen one before that.

Great find. A number of nice additional cans as well.

Thanx.
