Re: Grain Belt Ale

I got mine as part of a lot of several cans on eBay, not noted as an Ale. Displayable front but big hole on the side. Very tough can to find...

Re: So what will you be looking for at Canvention?

Cone tops! New labels, variations and upgrades. More specifically a displayable dumper (and affordable) Apache. Hoping ABQ does for my SoCal cone variations what Portland did for adding Rainier alcohol variations (e.g. the ABC World's Gold Medal variations I need). I'll be the guy sitting on the flo...

Re: rainier cone variation

3.2% versions I have: L180-10 underlined version, no Cap-Sealed panel. Mine, like Matt's above, is very clean and came from Dan S. in Portland. I believe he had four of them there. I was told that these were specifically for sale in Colorado. L180-10 Cap-Sealed panel, PATENTS APPLIED FOR above Cap-S...

What's It Called?

Please forgive me if this has been discussed before, but with the DGR update I'm trying to classify the type of cone like the Heileman's Old Style 177-13. Apparently it is not unique as the Supplement now includes an ABC (designated as 150-00) with the same type of cone. So what is it called? Does i...

Re: Various conetops

Good post Eric. I'll add my two cents to what Jim has not already addressed and I have some knowledge of. Mineral Spring - the subtle color differences hold true for the Continental and Crown versions I have. Milwaukee Club - thanks for pointing out the change in 174-3 to IRTP. Even so, 174-1, 2 and...

Re: Iron City Cone Variations

Love that the DGR got mentioned as a source document! This is great stuff! I hadn't realized that there was a Patents Applied For above and below Cap-Sealed on 169-30. Mine is a little rusty on the side but I believe it is the Above version. I'll have to watch more closely for the other. I have the ...

Just for timeline purposes I do not have the flat but have the tab version (U-tab) from Drewrys. I also have a later tab, with only Famous Premium Beer, that is Sterling DBA Associated.

Re: Unlisted Schlitz FBIR Cone Top

I agree with Neil that this is a tougher variation. I have this one, as well as the 4% and 4 3/4% FBIR variations. The USBC was a massive project. I think you cannot take a variation not being pictured as a definitive for rarity. There are many 'major minor' variations (e.g. alcohol statements, brew...

Re: Burkhardts Special cone top

I saw it (L156-2) on your Conehead Composite (JH #1520). Maybe that was a may exist/needs to be identified item? Agreed on 156-5, hardly see it.

Re: Burkhardts Special cone top

Leon - Is this the version with or without the 3.2-7% alcohol statement? I have the alcohol statement but have never seen it without.

Jim - I agree that the Export variations are easier to come by. Which is tougher, the non-alcohol version of the can pictured above or the Master Blended Beer (156-5)?

DGR Update

Friends, For those of you at Canvention, and at the Rusty Bunch meeting in particular, you saw the copies of the DGR (Dumpers Guide To Rareness) Update. This is the first phase, a conversion of all cones pictured and rated in the BCU, plus Class Book quarts, converted to the USBC. I am looking for i...

I joined the BCCA in 1977 and have been a member since. While the Rusty Bunch is my main focus I have got a lot out of the hobby over the years. I consider the $40 a small price to pay for what I have got out of it.

Give me an honest dumper any day! I traded for this one at Canvention in Omaha. Notwithstanding the attic find, this is still a very tough can. What surprises me is the number of bids for a repaint.

I first "met" Mike during my first term as editor of Rustlings. Something in his story must have included the Denver Beer tabs. I remember mentioning that was a cool can I'd like to get one day. Next thing you know a box shows up with all three Denver cans. While relating this story to John Smoller ...

We dumped a few cases of the Ale, from Burkhardt, in the UP in 1992. I suspect Metropolis was an alternate supplier, though Best would have made as much sense logistically.

Fort Schuyler Crowntainer - legit?

BCU 37-32 lists this can as a paper label. It is listed in the BCCA composite but not pictured in the USBC book. Is this a legitimate paper label crowntainer (e.g. Gluek's Stite) or a fake? Thoughts?

Thanks for posting the pics Jim. I only have three of them, the regular versions from A. Haas and Copper Country and the 3.2% from Copper Country. It will be fun to incorporate the variations into the DGR.
