Re: Plastic can wraps
A can wrap can make it easier to insert and remove a rusty can from a can tote compartment (or even a wine or beer box), particularly in cases where there's more pronounced rust on the body, thus creating more friction with the surrounding cardboard walls than, say, a higher grade can (not necessari...

What constitutes withdrawn free?
I have several questions on this. Can someone kindly explain this whole mess?! My understanding is that the brewer paid no tax to the federal government on beer sold outside the US. So any such cans or bottles would have carried the WF statement, both before and after the war. I'm unclear, however, ...

Disregard statement for olive drab cans?
You have an OD flat top can with the usual WF statement, and there's all these unfilled cans left over after the war order was dropped, but the cans are already rolled, and they want to fill the cans for civilian consumption, so they solve the problem by declaring the contents tax paid by printing a...

Miller Olive Drab Flat Top?
What is the general consensus as to why the Miller OD label design is so different than the non-OD? Why would they do that?
Then again, why not? It would be ironic if the standard label ever turned up or even the converse example wherein a non-OD version of the OD label was found.

Olive Drab cans not shown in USBC1
A number of years back, there was a find of some Grain Belt OD cones (I think they were cones) in Europe. I thought this was in the last 10-12 years, and that it was unknown until that find. Also, there was the Miller OD flat that turned up and then one or two more trickled in, with the particular o...

Why olive drab tax paid cans?
We all know that there are a few tax paid OD brands, including the Fort Pitt crowntainer (both IRTP and WF), the Regal Pale and the Sicks Select OI (both IRTP and WF). There may be a few others pictured in the USBC1 or that have since been found. Regardless, their number is dwarfed by the WF example...

Interesting. Thanks, guys!
Hey, Kevin, I'd forgotten all about that Kent story. Would be memorable to find some of the beers. Looks like they certainly could have made it somewhere into TN then.

Re: Krueger Beer in the Deep South ?
Thanks, guys. Yeah, Al, you raise a good point with beer's popularity waxing following the war, and ale waning due to the GI's taste preference and/or their exposure to beer. Wasn't Red Cap Ale one of the few (only?) ale brands sold in OD cans? I thought ale was traditionally higher alcohol content,...

Re: Some other Alabama digging
Right, so in the case of the Krueger Ales (let's say that we're limiting the discussion to IRTP, including OIs), why do we never hear about the beers being dumped in the Deep South? When it's found, it's always the ales. I'm not saying that the beers haven't been found, maybe so, but I don't recall ...

Why Krueger Ale?
I guess I'm being a tad lazy here, but I don't have my book handy. If my memory serves me even modestly, it was the ale that was test marketed in Richmond. But what about the beer? 1. Did they sell both at the same time for the test, or did the beer arrive later in the Richmond market, following the...

Krueger Beer in the Deep South ?
Has anyone found any Krueger Beers in the Deep South? Ales have been found, yes, and ads may corroborate that the beer variety was sold, but curious if anyone has dumped any or had any indoor finds. If not, it seems a bit odd given that Ale was more common in the northeast at that time, gradually lo...

There were also Falstaff cones, Champagne Velvet cones and 76 Ale cones, I think? Yes, Leon, I believe the dump across the street was a lot of scattered bottles and later cans. The topography was very different, with thick foliage in places and lots of piles of dirt, etc., making searching annoying....

It is also possible that a given brand may have been brought into the state (whatever state in question) by residents who lived close to a neighboring state where it was sold, or perhaps more widely sold -- similar to the dry county scenario. Also, I have never heard of Krueger Beers being found dow...

If I couldn't make arrangements to see the can in person, I doubt I would enter into such a paramount proposition, particularly a price of such expected magnitude. I remember a Rustlings story (an RBer, anyway) wherein one of those was found, sometime back ... hmm ... maybe 2003-2005ish, maybe even a little later? ... something like that. They weren't thinking, and perhaps, it was some former owner of the can whose responsible for the handiwork, and the seller was just trying to jettison it. But I concur. It's a real shame when people have to dork around with cans. Sheesh! Just leave them alone, and all will be better for it. In my o...

As others have said, certain colors will fade if the water is too hot. Red will fade, Green/blues can fade, too, turning from one to the other ... something like that. Bottom line: while hot water can expedite the cleaning time, and some may prefer such a stratagem to get quick feedback (test for ec...

Sounds like you guys had a fun trip. Impressive find. I don't see to many finds with quarts, but I know you've found them a number of times over the years, certainly. There used to be a product called Zanfel, made by an Illinois company. I don't know if it's still around, but you'd sometimes see it sold in pharmacies. It came in a small, toothpaste size tube. It's expensive, but not as much as a trip out west. This stuff is nothing short of miraculous. A little g...
