Re: Schepps Beer Texas

The Rosalie dump is about 40 miles from Longview. It's certainly possible they came from there. Longview has been dry for decades. It's possible it was not dry for periods of time, as those votes did occur periodically. The ads showing the cans for sale, while they are in the Longview paper, do not ...

Re: Schepps Beer Texas

I believe Longview was a dry area. Most of Gregg county was wet, including Kilgore, but Longview was dry. I am certain this was the case when Schlitz opened the brewery in Longview in the mid 60s.

I was correct. Tom moved from the Houston area to the San Antonio area a few years ago. He's fine. They barely got any rain.
I just found that out through facebook and I see you beat me to it. Glad to hear!

Anybody hear from Tom Inman? He's in Seabrooke where they got an unbelievable amount of rain. I will check on him on facebook.

We got lucky here in Lake Charles. 20 inches of rain, but I didn't flood.

Re: Red and Black Jax cans

Let me agree with Dave. My research is exactly the same as his. The Yellow Stripe version appeared in ads in April 1950. The first reference to Jax beer in cans is in June 1948. The non IRTP is the toughest, the armless is the easiest and all are probably a bit over-rated. We find the red and black ...

Re: Krueger's Special

What the seller is doing is seeking information. He sends the info to just enough people to get some buzz going and get some idea of what the can might sell for. A figure of $150,000 has been suggested here. That is the type of information the seller is looking for and I have no doubt he has read th...

Re: Krueger's Special

It would be helpful if someone had an image of the article from the 80s.

I have a question that maybe somebody knows the answer to. Did Canco pay ACCO or the brewers for advertising their opener on the cans? It seems like an awful lot of advertising for them to give away.

Re: Krueger's Special

My brother (Canoe) and I were talking about this today and both of us independently thought the date scratched in the lid is odd. Canoe wondered if the formatting was in use in the 30s (10/15/33) or if they used a different style then like the European way with the day first, then month and year. Or...

Hey, Dennis. Welcome. I know Hoyleton very well. I grew up in Salem, about 40 miles away. I don't want to discourage you, but that part of Illinois is tough dumping. If you can find things there, you are good at this.

Re: Berghoff Malt Liquor STOUT

This gets kind of complicated sometimes. I am guessing some states did not care what the labeling was and accepted either. In Arkansas I have found numerous Country Club MLs of many variations and about 2/3 are stout and the rest are not. That indicates to me that there was no requirement. In Texas,...

Re: Ever been curious where Manhattan Beer was sold??

Church Point Wholesale was a distributer. This ad is from Lake Charles, about 60 miles away. I've never dumped Manhattan beer in Louisiana, but it was definitely sold here and advertised. This ad is from 4/16/36.

I have found the ten ounce Longview can a few times here in Louisiana, always a flat, never a tab. It is interesting that the can lists the 1960 copyright, but the brewery didn't open in Longview until '66 or so.

What makes you say you totally botched the acid bath? That looks pretty typical of the results you get from soaking mystery cans.

Nice job on finding them. Pretty cool stuff.

It was fun to read that old thread. It was Oldmoneytexan's confirmation of the fire house in Rusk that got me and Jay Sansom the info we needed to find the place. I got a Black Dallas out of it. Jay got a nice one on a later trip there. Like he said, there's not much left, but I might go back someda...
